Very slowly, no more than by 5 mg each month.

And be prepared for the issues you had prior to Paxil to return. These drugs don't cure any problems, they simply mask them.

You need to discuss any medication changes with your Doctor. If you do not like paxil but still need a similar medication, the Doctor may be able to find an alternative. If you no longer need the medication, the Doctor should be the one to make that diagnosis and arrange for safely weening you from the med.
Withdrawal from many medications can cause terrible side effects - some can be physical, some can be mental. Don't do it without a medical professional monitoring your condition.

I can't say that I was on Paxil for this long, but my good friend was taking 50 mg / day and decided to ween off of it, much like what you're doing. Just know that Paxil will create some short term withdrawal symptoms during the initial stages of withdrawal. With that said, you may appear anxious, depressed, or just feel different, but don't let it get to you. These are normal side effects so don't let it alarm you. My friend felt a bit strange during the first few weeks off Paxil, but he is extremely happy about his decision to stop taking the meds. He doesn't "feel like a zombie anymore", he says. I hope this is helpful.

very freakin slowly! I took myself off over a 6 month period. I halved my dose for like 2 months, then quartered it for 2 months, then halved the quarters for a month (1/8ths) until I was just taking like a bitty piece for a few weeks and then no more. It's kinda a pain in the a@# to cut the pills cause they have the coating, so get a pill cutter. It may not be the best way but at the time I had no job or insurance just a 3 month supply before I lost my job and some samples from my previous doctor who tried to help me out.

Whatever dose you are on, cut it in half and take that amount like you ususally would (2 times a day, or whatever). Do that for a month. Then cut it in half again, and take that for 2 wks- a month. Then do it again if there's anything left. By then you should be able to deal with it being out of your system.
If you do it too fast, you will have withdrawal symptoms, which may include suicidal thought, so BE CAREFUL! You should probably be monitored by your doctor while doing it, or they can give you a smaller dose tablet. But if you want to do it by yourself, just gradually take less and less, over a few months time. It'll be fine.
If you start freaking out, call your doc. or a hot line ASAP!

First talk to your doctor. Ive done this before, along with others in my family (not with Paxil, but other meds) and as others have said, you need to do it very slowly. Your doctor will give you advice about this.

If you've been taking it for a long period you'll have to gradually reduce it. Some people can just stop taking it and be fine whereas others have withdrawal symptoms. Talk to your doctor.

Very SLOWLY. Suggest you call the physician that gave you the prescription so you can be monitored through the tapering process.

You need to taper down your dosage or take it every other day..if your not to dependent on it. But tapering down the dosage is better because the withdrawl efforts are horrible.
