I can totally picture what you are saying! I think that yes cats do in fact have a desire to be Catzilla. We had a cat that did things like that...even something as simple as an earring as soon as you placed it on the table you could bet she would jump up to knock it off! Thanks for the laugh!!

Cats desire to increase the entropy in their environments. Entropy, as anyone who has ever eked out a "C" in Basic Physics or Chemistry knows, is disorder. It is the lowest energy state of things.
Cats abhor order and the expenditure of energy in attempting to create order. For this reason, set-ups like the decorative village you describe are anathema to cats.
When they find order, cats know that it is their purpose in life to put things right. If it's neatly laid out, it must be tumbled into chaos (and, if possible, broken). Things that are stacked must be tumbled. Things that are whole must be frayed and reduced to bits. Things that have been sorted must be un-sorted. Things that are folded must be rumpled. Anything that has been put up high, on a shelf or bookcase, must be shoved out to land on a lower level. And so it goes.
Cats don't do this to be mean or cruel. They just know that increasing entropy is a part of their purpose of being. They do have a secondary purpose-- they want humans to stop expending energy in useless efforts to bring order to chaos, and start expending energy making cats feel loved and cherished.
And that's the truth. ;-))

If you didn't let the stinking animal live in your house to begin with, you wouldn't have this problem now would you. Get a life. Cats belong outside to fend for themselves. Stop spoiling the devil's pets.

Cats will play with just about anything. My suggestion would be to get them something more exciting to play with, sort of a lure away from your decorations!
