I am naturally very dark haired(almost black), but was blond a few years ago for about three years. It looked good, but was very expensive and hard to look after(has to be done professionally for it to look any good I think) anyway, I fancied a bit of a change, but I'm not really one for having highlights or 'stripey' hair, you know, I like sorta blanket colour, so it's either really dark or really blond. It's nearly to my waist, and I know the bleach will pretty much ruin it, but I used to get so much more attention as a blond, even though all my friends are saying don't do it!!!
What do you think? Or any others suggestions?

Please don't do it!!
You are right, you are going to ruin your hair, but also you are putting yourself up for all of the work to keep up with it. If you got so much attention as a blonde, maybe you should channel that blonde attitude and confidence you had while you were blonde, and try it out with the dark hair. See if you get that same attention.

Keep it dark. Dark hair always enhances your eyes, plus once it's blonde, - platinum in your case, it will be sort of trashy.... and if you are getting more attention as a blonde with trashy platinum hair, guys (ok, not all but a lot) are naturally thinking you are easy... that's just my opinion - and I wouldn't want that kind of attention. Blonde highlights would be MUCH better than heavy blonde all over. Or, just add a few highlights to your bangs/hairline, enhancing your face a little - keeping the rest dark. That wouldn't be too expensive to do and would look really pretty.

If you are going to dye it blonde, i would also suggest a shorter cut to keep the condition. Have you thought about a kind of auburn blonde? My friend has very dark hair and that seemed to look good with her colouring. And are you sure about no highlights? Because if you got the whole of your hair dyed a paler shade of brown or a dark blonde you could have blonde 'woven' highlights- they acheive a beautiful multi-tonal effect without the 'stripey' look you wish to avoid. At the end of the day, it's about doing what you feel comfortable with and what makes you trust that you look good.

Don't go blond if you have no intentions of keeping up the color. If your dark roots start showing against a blonde dye job (blah). If you must go blond, use a rinse that way it will all gradually fade away at the same time and it's less maintenance.
If you are still unsure, there are software programs that allow you to "try out" a color before actually doing it. You just use a recent picture and try various computer generated hairstyles against your face. Some salons also offer this service.

Don't ruin your hair with bleach. Make the most of your naturally dark hair. You could alway cut it to give you a funky new style. I used to have long hair like yours, then I cut it and I get so much more attention as its really sharp looking but dark. I also put a dark red colour on top of it so that it looks black, but in sunshine or under a light, it has a really nice hint of red.

its not the colour of the hair that matters its cos brunettes have a bit of a mustache that puts guys off and you cant see the girls tash on a blonde girl so i would stay brunette but make sure you keep upto scratch on the old mustache with plenty of imac and also its a good idea to shave the other hair of but leave a tiny bit about the size of a mustache,,, hmmm its like basically girls have the mustache in the wrong place.

Don't do it you will regret it....I get bored with my hair colour and then decide to change it and then get fed up with having to go to the hairdressers all the time for a touch up. I am now back to my own colour and have been for a year and have decided to dye it about three times and then said no at the last minute and I am glad that I have I like my natural colur (dark brown)...........

Don't bleach it if it is that long and nice. Bleach strips hair.
Ever thought about a color cellophane with a bright color instead of going light? It can be a pretty cool effect - if you hair is dark it will probably only be seen when you are outside or under bright light.
