my friend started having strange thoughts that people are setting her up, and everybody is trying to get rid of her. She even thought that her lecturers made everyone in the class feel bad about her. She once threw things outside the window, and thought she was always under 'surveillanced'. She started making up stories that don't exist.

is it schrophrenics? I'm very worried.

I read about psychosis - sounds like her. What do you think?

she also went to spend lots of money on her credit card to buy things she didn't need, because she thought she was backed up by a 'rich boyfriend' which is not true.

You mean Schizophrenia and, although there is a type of schizophrenia called paranoid schizophrenia, she would still need to demonstrate a lot of other serious symptoms before classifying as any type of schizophrenia, like major delusions. Her behavior is not normal and could lead to some more serious problems. I think it's closer to paranoid personality disorder, but no one on here who has never even met her could make the decision. I would suggest reading a bit more about these two illnesses and then if it seems to match up, suggest she see a professional. she could just be acting weird because she's experiencing stress or something bad just happened. here's a link about paranoid personality disorder: http://www.ptypes.com/paranoidpd.html and here's one about schizophrenia: http://www.nimh.nih.gov/publicat/schizoph.cfm#schiz1 but I would suggest reading more than just these two pages.
anyway, I hope this helps.

Schizophrenia is a general term for many different forms of mental illness because it just means that the brain is separated from reality so in this sense yes your friend is probably schizophrenic. But what is more specific is that she is paranoid. This can be the result of depression or stress and several other mental conditions but it would be good idea to get her to see her GP who can refer her to a psychiatric practitioner.

That is not schizophrenia, that is paranoia. Until she realizes that she is in trouble and wants help, there really isn't alot you can do for her. You can try suggesting she get some mental health counselling, but don't expect she will listen to you.

Maybe, but she should talk to her doctor as although she's not necessarily schizophrenic, it sounds like something is stressing her out
