I have a 10 week old beagle mix puppy. And sometimes when she gets wound up she bites. And, though she IS playing, it is not playful biting. She starts growling and pushing her boundaries. We have tried everything we know to stop her from biting. From pinning her down, to growling back at her, telling her NO, ignoring her, and a handful of other things. She just gets wound up more and tries even harder. When she gets excited, she will jump at people's faces. She doesn't always bite, sometimes she kisses (which, i have also tried training her to do that instead of biting.) But, I can't have her diving at people's faces all the time. I try having company make her sit and lay down when they come in, and give her a treat.. but, she is too excited. And since she is adorable, so is the company. lol
She is obedient otherwise, she comes, sits, heels, lays down, and shakes. HELP. I don't want to get rid of her, but I don't know what to do about this biting. I can't afford professional training

i had this same problem with my beagle pup - they are a highly social dog and need lots of running and playtime...but on to your biting issue...Jonah (my beagle) did the same thing - I asked a friend who breeds and trains them and he said to try a few things....here they are
when puppy bites you, tap him on the nose while saying no (not yelling it but saying it firmly) and give him a chew toy instead, while saying "No, you dont chew on mommy (or daddy or whomever) - you chew on your toys!" (this is what worked best for me)
you can also get apple bitters - its a spray that tastes horrible and works pretty good, depending on the dogs attitude, to break them from biting and chewing things they werent supposed to.
instead of pulling away when puppy bites you, push into the bite, not to hurt puppy but to show him that you arent afraid and that it makes no difference if he chews your or not - its not going to get you to play.
ignore the dog completely - once you establish that you are the one in control of the situation it might correct itself.
Best of luck to you

Sign up for puppy classes. This will help her when she gets older & you begin obedience classes as well.
She is JUST A PUPPY & puppies bite & get wound up. She is use to biting & rough housing with her litter mates who growl & bite back. She is NOT being mean, she is JUST being a pup.
One of our French Mastiffs did this & each time, we would hold his head (NOT HARD) at arms length from us & tell him NO!!! & if he got too wound up to listen, play time was over. We would just get up & walk away. He did NOT hit him for it or go overboard in scolding him because he was just a puppy. When your pup does this, try to stop the game & give her something to distract her from you. A toy she likes & let her focus on that. Then walk away. Pinning her down & growling are NOT going to help & probably have made the problem worse. When she was playing with her litter mates, she was growling & rolling around on the floor & was more than likely pinned down by the other pup she was playing with. Us a FIRM, AUTHORITATIVE NO!! when reprimanding her, but don't yell or go overboard with it.
Do NOT allow her to give kisses or bite at anyones face, she needs to be taught manners NOW so that she does not jump up on people, this is where the puppy training classes will be helpful.
Beagles are hounds, meaning they can be very stubborn. Start NOW to teach her manners & how to listen & follow commands. She will be happier in the long run & so will you....

She does this to establish dominance.. You need to gently but firmly establish your role as the leader. I have always favored the positive approach and offered treats only when she is calms down and stops jumping at peoples faces, reinforce the positives..telling her good girl when she is calm and her behavior is acceptable. Puppys have a abundance of energy so this may take some time, however it's worth it went she grows to be a wonderful and loving part of your family

She's a puppy. They keep biting everything for at least 3 to 6 months until they loose all their baby teeth, then they slow down. Get a chew toy for her.

You can try some dog toys like play bones and other items for your dog to bite and chew on as this will help some. also you can try another dog to play with and take the dog for general walks daily for a while. In case your dog is afraid of the company until used to them, just keep himn away from the company until he gets used to them.

First she is a puppy and that behavior is to be expected (not to say you have to tolerate it)
Be consistant. A stern "NO" (change your tone of voice) and a nose smack (try and use newspaper or magizine if handy)
Your puppy will learn to reconize your tone of voice and associate the rasing of hand or newspaper with being bad.
and will learn that biting is bad if you are consistant enough.
The trick is to consistant - not yell louder or hit harder cause your mad - and don't ignore because she is being harmless or you just don't want to punish her.
Good Luck.

Your dog is just teathing.Just like a baby would. Your puppy is getting teeth. And for there gums not to hurt they chew on things. Try some soft toys that wont fall apart when they chew on them.

My magic squirt bottle of water with a little vinegar. That works really good for biting. Also, a small smack on the nose won't hurt your dog but, if it was in a pack, the pack leader would correct her in a similar way.

The puppy is teething. Buy what it takes. If rawhide will do it fine. If it won't and you have to buy a real bone with marrow in it and meat on it, prepare it cook it? cool it and the puppy will do its biting on the bone.
