The best lap dog I have ever had is my 116 lbs Lab. He is the most loving and affectionate dog i have ever had and I would not trade my snuggler for the world. I am not a little dog person but if that what you want the King Charles Cavaliers are great loving little lap dogs.

Loved the Newfie answer - mine weighs 130 and isn't allowed anywhere near the furniture!
My cocker spaniels were the most awesome lapdogs. They are spunky and well spirited and demand attention but are still a sporting dog with a love of the outdoors. My very first one not only was a lap dog, but she would sleep on top of my stomach when I took a nap on the couch.
They require lots of care - brushing, ear care and grooming - but what lap dog doesn't?

That depends on if you want to feel the dog on your lap. My 47lb English Bulldog is obsessed with being on our laps at all times, she is the biggest cuddle bear. If you prefer a little dog, my Father/Step-Mother and also my friend both had a Pomeranians that lived on the lap and Pomeranians are soft like stuffed animals

Buy a PBGV, expensive, loves to eat and sit on your lap and are going to be a dog of the future as judges put them up in group (French hound dog ) in the last two big dog shows, TThey are shaggy and are wash and brush and need toe nails clip sometimes. Check out on inter net. About 30 pounds

Lap dogs don't need a breed, they will be happy enough with just you ;)

Dachshund! They are the best lap dogs out there (though Labs do make a pretty heavy blanket!)

I think Bichon Frise are good lap dogs. They're also hypoallergenic so no one has to worry about them hurting their allergies. They only get about 20lbs.
