it's supposed to come out in January 30, 2007 right around the time of the Super Bowl and they have a huge SB XLI ad blitz coming.
rumors are pricing will be just under a hundred bucks and two hundred or more for full versions or more elaborate or networking versions.
this is THE first ever Windows product that finally dumps DOS... should be interesting to see what they created from the ground up. all this time they only emulated the windows-based GUI MacOS over a DOS interface which made for a ton of security problems. Windows has been the most insecure porous of all OS created in the past decade, becasue it was nothing more than a pretty looking DOS.
supposedly, this was held back to work out all the bugs, because of the bad pub from more recent releases like Windows 2000 which was full of bugs. only time will tell. the ultra-rare interview with CEO Steve Ballmer on Fox with Neil Cavuto foretold of a nearly-perfected product. evidentally, Microsoft has a whole lot riding on this release and Ballmer demanded perfection.

Early next year but I would wait a year before installing it, as most likely it will have a lot of bugs in the beginning.
