Sounds to me like he just felt like someone read his mind and he is a little surprised.If I was you,skip the middle man at this point and talk to him when you see him.If your too afraid yet, then just make long eye contact with a smile as he passes bye you.Then next time, give him a smile and a wink and say hey, how are you, but keep walking.
I am sure in no time after that he will be the one wanting to talk to you.
Give it a try. Seems to me you got one ready for your attention!

He likes you and he's hardly dared believe you could fancy him.
Make sure you smile at him and say Hi! whenever you have the opportunity. Try and arrange something you can be together at and make every effort to talk to him in a non-threatening way.
Invite him and some other guys to something you organise with some other girls -- that will give you an easy opportunity to meet and talk.
