I accidentally found my christmas stash and found a travel mug, a planner, and a band t-shirt (I have never worn a band t-shirt). Anyway, I know it's the thought that counts, so I guess I will start wearing band t-shirts and I will take my travel mug everywhere. What did you do when you got a crappy present?

My husband has bought me sweaters that I hated so we just returned them and let me pick them out!

it sounds like you haven't been married very long, and he isn't sure about what to get you. his choice of gifts sound pretty generic........
our first christmas i received a horrible horrible sweater from my husband. i thought i'd be tactful and let the washer and dryer take care of the issue. i washed and dryed it on high several times.........the damn thing wouldn't shrink, fade, pill, nothing! so i wore it around the house, camping, gardening etc. he was so happy to see me wearing it i actually started feeling guilty for being so picky.
we have been married for 28 years and that sweater is still in the closet.......its pretty worn and terribly faded and i've mellowed with age.............so now and then i pull it out and throw it on to work in the garden and he still smiles when he sees me in it. take a piece of advice ........ when you open your gifts, put a pretty smile on your face and tell him how much you love him! a mug is a mug and a planner will be handy, wear the t-shirt once in awhile and he'll be thrilled.
merry christmas to you both.

One year - my in laws were in the mall when they walked past a big, floral mo-mo - one of those huge old fashion night dresses that looks like you are wearing a curtain. My mother in law made a sarcastic comment that is was "Exactly what I want for Christmas"

So, my father in law, thinking she was serious, snuck back later and bought it for her! Imagine his surprise when he brought out his special gift Christmas morn, it was priceless. you could see the pride in his face when he handed it to her - because she is impossible to surprise normally. She opened it and started laughing, thinking it was a joke!

Anyway, now it is one of her favorite gifts ever and she tells that story every year because it is one of the sweetest things he's done for her, though it is probably the worst gift she has ever gotten, lol. She even wears it around the house once in a while when she is sure no one can see her cause she says it is really comfortable, lol.

Worst gift I ever got - a candle that my hubby bought cause he couldn't think of anything else. That year I was mad, cause it made me feel like he didn;t know me at all. But, for all you know, he may have a specific reason why he bought those presents for you and you are right, it is the thought that counts. So, like my mother in law who walks around in an aweful mo-mo on occasion - enjoy them and think how much worse they could have been, lol.

Well I have to say yes to your question. This was about 12 years ago, My husband gave me a sewing machine for Christmas. I didn't think he would give me something like that. Maybe for some women that would have been a great gift but for me it wasn't. I didn't say nothing to him about it, but he seen my expression and realize I didn't like it. He wanted to take it back and let me pick something else, but I said no it's okay. Till this day I still have the sewing machine and well the person that uses it all the time is him. He likes to fix his pants and mine too, so I guess it all worked out. But it's like you said it's the thought that counts. I'm sure theirs been at least one time that I gave him something he didn't like as well.

Maybe those gifts were for his secret lover, who plans things, drinks coffee from travel mugs, and loves band t-shirts?!!??!

Or maybe he's just a crappy gift-buyer. Hey, at least he tried. My bf makes me pick everything out myself, so my gifts are never surprises. Kinda takes the fun out of it.

LOL- we actually started skipping the idea of giving each other gifts for Christmas due to the fact- he buys jewelry I never wear enough to make him feel he got his moneys worth and I buy him clothing he hates. This year- we decided on a brand new rug that we both like for our living room.
We buy large "house" gifts for each other- together that we can use. Not much surprise in it but our house is starting to look nice :)

I've received my share of crappy gifts... not because he didnt try hard tho... but because they just werent my thing. I would 'use/wear/etc' the item a bit and then it would end up in the giveaway box in the closet.

You should just break it to him gently that this is not the kind of gift you wanted. Better to do it now. Educate him so he'll be a better gift-giver in the future.
