Sometimes I take antihistimine if I have other problems with hives. I usually put some Benadryl anti-itch cream on it or an ice
pack if it's a small area.

How Are Hives and Angioedema Treated?

The best treatment for hives and associated swelling is to identify and remove the trigger, but this is not an easy task. Antihistamines are usually prescribed by your doctor or dermatologist to provide relief from symptoms. Antihistamines work best if taken on a regular schedule to prevent hives from forming in the first place.

Chronic hives may be treated with antihistamines or a combination of medications. When antihistamines don't provide relief, oral corticosteroids may be prescribed.

For severe hive or angioedema outbreaks, an injection of epinephrine (adrenaline) or a cortisone medication may be needed.

How Can Hives Be Managed?

While you're waiting for the hives and swelling to disappear, here are some tips:

* Avoid hot water; use lukewarm water instead.
* Use gentle, mild soap.
* Apply cool compresses or wet cloths to the affected areas.
* Try to work and sleep in a cool room.
* Wear loose-fitting lightweight clothes.

When Should I Call the Doctor?

If hives or angioedema occur with any of the following symptoms, contact your doctor right away:

* Dizziness
* Wheezing
* Difficulty breathing
* Tightness in the chest
* Swelling of the tongue, lips, or face

I have found several things that you might try to relieve some of your symptoms. I hope you find what you are looking for!

1. Apply aloe vera gel or vitamin E oil to the affected area twice a day.

2. Take cayenne pepper in capsule form to aid the healing process.

3. Oatmeal can be really useful for hives. Pour one cup of boiling water over one tablespoon oatmeal. Let it steep for thirty minutes. Strain it, and then apply the liquid on your hives with a cotton ball. This also works to relive bug bites. Refrigerate the solution and use it in a few days. You can also make this in larger amounts and put it in your bathwater (about four cups of water and four tablespoons of oatmeal).

4. Take vitamin C, vitamin E, and zinc to help heal.

5. Drink tea made with a couple teaspoons of powdered stinging nettles (add honey and/or lemon for flavor).

If you get hives, rub some non-scented (store-bought) baby oil. Your hives will go away right before your eyes.
I get bad hives and the doctors medicines never worked...only after a couple of hours. I went to see an OLD herbalist and she just rubbed simple baby oil on me and it disappeared right away.

My doctor has always recommended "Benydryl" in either tablets or liquid for hives and itch. The children's chewables are easy to take and really help.

if you are having allergy problems such as breaking out in hives, then i believe that you should try over the counter antihistmines..
i would recommend BENADRYL for starters. if the BENADRYL
(generic name is diphenhyramine hcl) does not work then i think you should contact your doctor about him/her prescribing a prescription medication for you. but most importantly, you should try to find out what is causing you to break out in hives....
