I question the states right to enforce them.
The fact of the matter is that the only reason I am able to answer this question is because I wasn't wearing a seat belt.
Thirty five years ago on a rain swept highway I rolled a pick-up truck . Somewhere in the middle of all that rolling I was ejected. A month later after I got out of the hospital I went to look at what was once my truck. The roof was squashed down to the level of the dashboard and I have no doubt that if I stayed in the vehicle I would have died.
Do I l wear a seat belt? Usually, But that should be my choice to make , not the state's

While wearing a seat belt is a good idea, adults should have the freedom to determine the risks they are willing to take. We do not need the "nanny state" requiring us to wear a seat belt, or helmet on a motorcycle. We should have the freedom to take a risk that we deem acceptable to us!

Seat belt laws are not based on safety, they are a source of revenue for the govenment.

Well, I was a Police officer for 7 years, and never unbelted a dead person from a vehicle after an accident, while saw many other fatalities without belt usage...but when it is your time, it's your time....

Also, I saw your post on your explorer door dinging, what you can do to fix it is spray some wd40 or lubricating oil into the door latches, then shutting the door 5 or so times to free up the door ajar switches.... it would be the part on the door outer edge, toward the body of the truck, and looks like a C that the striker latches into, spray the wd40 into the lower part... If you need more info, you can email me..

instead of looking for drug dealers , murderers , rapist and robbers , they are now looking for me because I don't wear a seat belt , what happened to the land of the free , where we should decide if we should wear a seat belt or not , kids should be forced to wear seat belts not adults , do they need the money that bad so they make a law about seat belts just so they can afford using their new ticket books and ink pens and new computers

I think it should be personal responsibility, however that being said, I am a firefighter/EMT and have seen more people walk away from bad accidents because they were restrained. My state has a safety belt law. Although, one accident on the highway, in my district, a man was ejected through the sunroof of his car. His car was destroyed, multiple rollover, and he didn't have a scratch. I told him to go play the lottery if all his luck didn't get used on this one.

I always wear my seatbelt, but the government has no right having a seatbelt law. The government needs to stay out of our business. No transfats, no smoking, no Christmas, tax us to death etc. Look at all those people that go off to Congress. In five years they are all filthy rich. Look how they won't drill for oil in the US and save us money. But why would they, they are all rich and can afford $5 a gallon gas. It's going to get worse when Obama or Hillary is pres.

I definitely agree with them. Seat belts have saved many lives, and also a couple have died since they weren't wearing their seat belts. When a car comes to a sudden stop, you are thrown forward, and if your head hits the windshield, this could kill you, but if your seat belt is keeping you back in the seat, you will more than likely lurch forward but still stay safe.

I think that wearing a seatbealt or not for people OVER the age of 18 should be a choice. Though i do think it would be terrible if I hit someone and they died because they weren't wearing a seatbelt. ALL children and young adults should ALWAYS be properly buckled into a car. The rest of us should have a choice.

Seatbelts are a good idea, but I am against restrictive laws for American adults. A helmet law for auto drivers would make more sense than a seatbelt law.
