My truck has 65K on it. Already had front drivers side wheel bearing, and is now on its way for other side front and back $600. Also drivers side window motor took a dump $70. 6 disc cd changer just quit working, says no disc everytime I try to play it. Passenger side door wont unlock with remote. push button 4x4 will not engage high or low. Tries to not start about every 5th time I start it. Just turns over and over and over and then fires up. Makes a big clunk when I turn to the left too tight. Airbag and brake dummy lights will not go off. etc.. etc.. etc.. AARRGH. Its so disgusting because I hate to turn against fords but this is really dissapointing to me!

Hi Amber... glad to hear that you hate turning against Fords. The truth of the matter is that the Explorer has been number 1 seller since it came out as a 1991 model... obviously, there is a reason for that. The majority of people are happy with them, but there is always the bad one, no matter what the manufacturer is. I read the answers above, and you are getting not just the people that have bad ones, but the ones that took the opportunity to take a shot at Ford. I know a few people that have them and have no issues with them. I drove them for a number of years and never had problems, now I downsized to an Escape, which is another great vehicle. Buying it used is probably the problem... it may not have had the required maintenance and/or was abused by the previous owner. Good luck with yours and Merry Christmas

The key here no matter where it came from is that you bought it used. No matter what a dealership or private owner TELLS you about it, you have no real way of knowing how well it was taken care of. It could have been wrecked for all you know. How long did you have it before things started to go wrong? Some of your problems could easily be fixed, I think. Do you have a reputable mechanic for example? Do you know anything about car repairs so that you could do the simple stuff yourself?. Do you do routine maintenance? Do you abuse it when you drive it? I guess my point is that there are many reasons for a car to have things go wrong and it isn't always the car's fault. We have driven Fords for 35 years and I can honestly say we only had one that we had problems with (an Aerostar) that i would consider serious and they were all fixed under warranty.

My husband takes excellent care of ours Fords and I think that helps. We have a 1998 Expedition that except for body style you would think was brand new. Both of our Mustangs (2004 convertible, 2005 GT) have been excellent and my 2006 Fusion is the best car I have ever had to do my everyday driving with. I LOVE it! I am sorry you have been having problems, though, and I hope you stay with Ford!

You don't mention whether you bought this car new or used. But if you bought it new, and didn't have the bearings repacked when they were scheduled to be, you have no one to blame but yourself.

If you bought it used, I'm betting you bought yourself a Katrina flood vehicle, cause that's way too much to be going wrong on a 3 year old vehicle. Everything you mention points to things being the result of water damage. Again, if this is the case, don't blame Ford, or turn against them. Beat yourself up while looking in the mirror.

Go ahead and spend the $20 to get a CarFax report. You might be surprised at what you find. And I sincerely hope I'm giving you a hard time for the wrong reasons.

If your vehicle has been lifted, adjustable camber shims MUST be installed. If the car has been in an accident your frame could be out of alignment--so no matter how well aligned the front end is the vehicle will NOT track straight. Sometimes a misalignment caused by damage to the mounting components for the rear axle will cause the car to mistrack. I would check the shocks next, if they haven't been replaced yet, they are due. Oftentimes a worn, bent or broken shock will cause this problem even though the alignment appears correct. If all else fails, YOUR CAR IS OUT OF ALIGNMENT!! Take it to a shop specializing in computer aided frame and wheel alignment and tell them about your concerns. If you bought the car used, I would suspect frame misalignment as this is common among some shady used car dealers and bodyshops. To see if there is a record of damage to the car, check at Carfax--on the web for a printout of your vehicles history. ( There is a small charge )--Hope this helps!

I would ask where did you buy this vehicle from-Ford or private party. Private party may not disclose all problems they have.
If it was a dealer than you still may be out of luck.

I would prepare to get rid of it for something new, new is better than old.

If you can,t afford a new vehicle then do your research on a good used vehicle. Fords are not bad vehicles, I sell mostly new ones and pre-owned. ny vehicle you buy could have issues, not just Ford. Thats just the vehicle you have right now.

Don,t put a lot of money into it, put up with what you ca and prepare to get something else. Sounds like too many problems to try and fix.

Mine has been good, but sounds like you you could do more maint. Like wheel baring on 4 wheel drive should be lubed from front axle, so has oil level been checked? Did you buy new or used? As 65,000 miles on a 3 year old vehicle indicates a lot of driving. Also may depend on how you drive as some drive really hard or there is a lot of stop and go driving?? Of course there is the chance you got a bad one, it happens. So sorry.

You are expieriencing what every ford/lincol/mercury/nissan/mazda owner goes through on a daily basis. It's a lemon and you need to get rid of it before you get hurt. The recalls are off the chart for your vehicle. Sell it quick and buy a toyota 4x4. Read Consumer reports quide to used cars and trucks at your local book store, and you will see what I am talking about. Brake failure, fire under hood/ in dash fire, wheels falling off at speed and sudden loss of steering are extremely common with ALL fords. Do the research, sell the truck fast. Save your life before it is too late.

I have had my explorer for 6 years, and never 1 problem ever..... you got a bad one.... take it back to the dealer and have them fix it. Sorry to hear of your problems. In my opinion the explorer is the best SUV ever. Mine is awesome!! Every car manufacturer makes a couple vehicles that have problems, that is technology.... computers and sensors..... vehicles were simpler and easier and more dependable befor the computer crap started.

Well i think you just got a lemon. I hate when people bash ford but i guess its opinion. I have 3 fords: 1 95 with 150,000 on it , 1 95 with 75,000 on it , and one 06 with 5,000 on it. Theyve been good to me, i'll keep buying em they are quality cars.

Well you do have a Ford so what do you expect. But I am surprised that you're having so many problems while the car is not even 4 years old. Anyways consider selling it and get something more reliable like the Mitsubishi Montero Sport, Nissan Pathfinder, Toyota 4Runner or Isuzu Rodeo. Good luck.
