Maybe the question you should be asking is if he is the right one for right now. I don't mean settling, no one should have to settle for what they don't truly want. What I mean is maybe you should be asking yourself if this person has/gives everything you want and need at this time. Perhaps if we all spend less time worrying about whether we are doing exactly the right thing with exactly the right people we will be able to relax and enjoy the relationship for what it is at this moment. Rather than think about whether this is a person you want to spend the rest of your life with, think about whether you want to see them this weekend. People can dramatically change multiple times within one lifetime and likely this person will. No one can predict if those changes will continue to complement the person you are and the person you will later become. Focus on the present and surround yourself with people who you feel worthy and have a blast. You can't go wrong with that!

When no one else in the world could come close to replacing them. Relationships do take a lot of work, but it shouldn't feel like a chore. When it's a pleasure to be around them and you miss them when they're gone. If you're thinking marriage, try to see the big picture way ahead down the road too. If she (or he?) got a terminal illness, would you want to be by their side?

You can only hope and pray and try to compromise. Always remember, a ring is NO guarantee. Being in a relationship is hard work, and if you dont take it completely serious, it could fall apart faster than you could possibly imagine.

i read an article in Cosmo that proved that there is no one person for anyone. there are many different people that can fit in your life as someone who can be your significant other
if you do not believe that like me, then the answer to your question is simple: You just know in your heart that he/she is the one

You already know. How do you feel when you are with him/her?
Are you in love? Does this person treat you like an equal? Does this person treat you with the respect you deserve? Are you appreciated?
