Well, I think you mean that whatever the criminal does, that same thing would be done to him. So in the case of rape, then the criminal would be raped, in the case of assult, the criminal would be assulted the same way. This might be something that would work. Who would provide the punishment, the persons that were assulted???and/or their families. That would even be more interesting. The drug dealers could be forced to consume drugs in quanities that would not be fun. It would also make for some interesting TV assuming it is televised. Might prove to be better deterrant that what is done now.

The meaning of the biblical "eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth" was intended to teach that the punishment must fit the crime. For example, in those days if you were a rich prominent person you would be punished little for a crime. If you were a poor peasant you could be executed for stealing a goat. So yes, the punishment should fit the crime.

No, I really don't think we need to follow the Code of Hammurabi anymore! That would be crazy! But, I do support the death penalty. I just think we need to look at each case individually and make the best decision based on the facts.

just as there is a lot of downfall with how our criminal justice system is run now, i'm sure "an eye for an eye" system will have many faults and will end up being just as terrible if not worse then some people see our form now.

Suppose some one was kicked to death by a toothless man with no hands, where would the justice be.

Indeed they should be. Look at the crime rates of countries who do have such strict answers to crime. They are much less then ours.

An eye for an eye leaves the whole world blind. And, we sent criminals to a "CORRECTIONAL" facility, to help "CORRECT" them, not for some vendetta.
