people and the world around us are in a constant state of evolution and change...why then do we place such importance on the permanent state of forever???....is it the unattainable dream...the need to be the first to conquer it???..what do you think?......;0)

Hey Pablo go take your bad a s s attitude somewhere else... and get a life while you are at it..
As for the question, well I am one who believes in my soul continuing after this fleshly life is over...I truly believe that this life isn't the last of me...so forever in that sense is important

I think this question belongs in a William Faulkner rough draft because you're putting too much thought into such a mundane topic. Look, we care about forever because at our cores we are all scared of dying and the word "forever" subconciously allows our pysche to believe that our life will last..ummm...forever. In addition, when you hear two people say they will "be together forever" they say it because we are all afraid of being alone and because we know that saying it will give your partner a feeling of security that they can't find in words like "a really long time" or "until you die". Or course you only have to look so far as the local courthouse to see the falacy here, with American divorce rates at an all time high the only thing in this country that is truly guaranteed to last forever is the line at the DMV..thats what I have to say, remember it..

I love your question - can I offer you its flip side?
Why are we so scared of THIS moment, right now! Do we concern ourselves with all these unfathomable matters like forever and eternity to deflect ourselves from this very moment. Yet it is only in this very moment that we are actually alive. And it is in this very moment that the answers to your question are to be found.
There are two books you might like to read which would take you deeper into this fascinating subject.
1 The Empty Mirror by Janwillem Van De Wettering.
2 The Power of Now by Eckhart Toller.
The ego loves playing with philosophical questions - they are such wonderful deflections from 'this very moment', which is where the real action is.Have a happy Christmas.

Its perhaps not that we desire to have forever but the fear of being told we are not needed or loved anymore, as people get older they inevetibly lose something, the young fear lose and rejection, this fear is reversed when faced with late age and the onset of middle aged vanity. Perhaps

As spirits we are immortal so forever isn't unattainable.
We will outlast this planet though and should look after it so it survives as long as possible.
So in answer to your Q, it is so important because we are going to be there, like it or not!

I believe in reincarnation so forever is important to me. I believe that what I do in this life will effect the rest of my lives and therefore forever is important to me because my soul will live forever.

Maybe it's just because the world keeps changin faster and faster that we need to belong, to have roots, to have that safe place in someone.

It's the unattainable dream... you already said it.... everyone wants to belong somewhere, to someone perminently! I agree though, it's unrealistic.
