A 2-liter used to be anywhere from .77 +deposit to 1.08 at the most expensive. Now it's on sale for 1.00 and 1.50+ normally priced. I buy 2-liters, fill up four 20 oz bottles and throw them in the fridge. I'm still saving money, but why the sudden increase locally? Are the prices going up anywhere else?

According to the business news, all prices are going up due to inflation being the highest in years. This is due mainly to increasing oil prices (and a few other factors). You are going to see all groceries going up...in the last few weeks I've seen a 5-10% increase in the cost of milk and eggs in Arkansas as well as substantial increases in fruits and veggies. You can thank OPEC. Some companies will try to hold out as long as possible hoping that people will switch to and stay with their brands...but sooner or later they will all have to increase prices.

You don't need to wonder. It's always like that during Holidays. It's just a cycle between demand and supply. If goods are traded in a market at a price where consumers demand more goods then bottle companies are prepared to supply, this shortage will tend to increase the price of the goods. And when consumers are prepared to pay more, it will bid up the market price. On the other side, prices will tend to fall when the quantity supplied exceeds the quantity demanded.
