Turkey, like other poultry, MUST be slowly thawed, inside the fridge. It takes several days, so get the turkey now, and keep it in the fridge. Put a pan under it to catch drips.
If it's not thawed by the time you need to cook it, put it in a potful of COLD water to thaw. Or run coldest tap water through it.
Never, ever thaw it at room temp or use warm water to defrost. Way too much chance of foodborne illness.

Its true room-temperature-thawed bird is susceptible to contamination by bacteria, so unless you’d like your guests to be visiting the emergency room in the days after your feast, those thawing techniques are your only options.

Well! However, some people do thaw it out on the counter.
But if you cook the bird at a temp it is suppose it is suppose to be
about 168-172 you will get rid of most bacteria if not all of it.
This is where most illness comes from not cooking it properly!

Because grandma did it this way.
All I've read support your position --BUT-- how do you tell grandma how to prepare a meal.
She wiped you're **** when you were "knee high to a . . ." - in her eyes, you have not advanced far beyond that child.
Approaching her with this learned science and logic would just be a lot of "yada, yada, yada".
All, have a good, safe, holiday !!!

Wow that was a life changing self-explained question for me. It changed my life, in a way that I will never put the Turkey on the counter again. Hehe Thanks!

Because my mother did it that way, her mother before her, her mother before her as far back as there has been frozen turkeys. No one has ever gotten ill from our Thanksgiving dinners.

Many people are just misinformed about proper procedure dealing with handling food. Kudos to you for bringing this to their attention!
