They stopped fearing something that didn't need to be feared. There is no greater fear than fear itself. People tend to fear that which they don't understand. They thought it was real. They were unsophisticated and didn't know, scientifically what we know now. We now know it's B.S. and there's nothing to fear.
I don't believe a person, though they may claim witch-ey powers can harm me. I do believe however, that with no claim to really have those powers, I can make a person think I'm harming him simply because HE believes strongly enough that I can. LOL-- I did it once....a guy I worked with kept annoying me and I wanted him to stop. Now it would be called sexual harassment, but I finally told him I would put a hex on him. He LAUGHED. So I started a game...I said "mumbly little things" around him, stared eerily at him from time to time. Once I left some chicken bones (from KFC -- haha) some bird feathers and rocks in his desk drawer. Burned candles on my desk and blew smoke his way. Just whatever came to mind at the time! He thought he was being hexed! He started having little "own stupid fault" accidents like running into doors, tripping on steps, getting caught in the elevator door...etc. He stopped annoying me and avoided me completely. The mind is a powerful thing. Which proves, humans can convince themselves of anything no matter how stupid it is.

because the 'witch hunter' (the guy who killed the witches) got accused of being a witch himself also because they used to torcher women so they would confess to being a witch which was silly because anyone would rather die than be torcherd i think people just realized that, and as we got smarter we found other reasons for storms, illness and crops dieing so we no longer needed to blame it on witch's

They feel they grew out of the nonsense of witch craft, now if they can just grow out of the nonsense of religion, maybe the world could make progress!
