TV is too versatile to get a go or no-go ruling like that. There are things on TV that kids (or adults for that matter) should never see, but there are other things that are very educational and informative.
To say it's bad would not be fair to the good things out there, but conversely, saying it's OK would leave you open to the risks.
To ensure that children get the benefits while avoiding the pitfalls, you need to monitor what your children watch, and let them watch what you approve of. Keep an open mind, and remember that what one child may not be mature enough for, another child might handle it fine. Know your kids and use your own judgement. It's the only way to be fair.

totally depends on the age and the shows they're watching. TV has been shown to cause the brain to wire differently in young children that are exposed to large amounts of television. Additionally, if the child is not watching age appropriate shows then they are learning about things that they are not mentally or emotionally ready to handle.
Small doses of tv and only age appropriate shows combined with other activites that don't require a screen (computer/video games/videos) and the kid should be just fine.

They did a study and it showed that children under the age og three who watch two or more hours of television(regardless if it was cartoons or Baby Einstein) were 28%more likely to have ADD. Kids don't need to watch television. Read them books, play make believe play outside. Have fun.

I think too much is probably bad for children, but if you limit the time for television a day, then it wouldn't be bad. When i say too much, i mean children who just sit in front of the television all day.

I think it's a definite maybe.
There are studies out that say that kids shouldn't be allowed to watch TV until they're two. There are different reasons behind that, ranging from hours in front of a TV screen affecting the way they think and reason to their becoming fat little couch potatoes due to being inactive.
The reality of the matter, though, is that a lot of parents park their kids in front of the tube to save their own sanity. If you can include your kids in the things you do - cooking, sweeping, whatever - and teach them to entertain themselves without the TV at least part of the time, you'll be doing better than most parents. If you drag them out to a park and make them run around a couple of hours a day, you'll be doing even better.

Yes, in several ways. It causes them to become inactive and they have a tendency to gain weight because of watching too much. There is also the tendency to eat in front of the TV also contributing to this. TV also influences our children. Even childrens shows can have negative influences or teach things we don't want our kids doing. My youngest has started saying "stupid" because he saw it on a Pokemon movie the oldest was watching. They also play more violently because of the violence they see. I try to screen everything they watch but it's virtually impossible. You know the saying "you are what you eat?" Well, it's the same with TV. Violence in = violence out and so on.

Mentally, too much telivision can influence them to do a lot of absurd things so the answer is yes.
Physically, to much television can hurt their sight, so the answer is yes.
Note; Telivision can hurt as well as heal a child, it depends solely on the situation.Your question is too general, if you did not get the response you were looking for, try rephrasing your question, narrow it down?

Too much of it or letting them sit like an inch away is really bad for thier lil eye's. My neices are allowed to do that and it drives me nuts. As long as they are kid friendly shows and they dont watch more than an our or 2 a day at the most and have plenty of other activities than i think its ok.
