The best advice to this question, is to quit working with him for long periods of time. Their attention span is not long and they learn better with very short lessons. Always end a lesson on a positive note. For example, when your dog does something correctly, praise him, praise him! Then quit and let him be a dog for several hours.

The first thing to teach your dog is who is the boss of this territory that is your home. When you go out the door, make him wait and follow after you. Hold his leash tight at the threshold of the door. Take a step outside the door but hold him at the inside of the door. Then say okay and let him follow behind you. Do this a few times and he will know that you are the leader, the alpha, in your territory. After that he will quickly learn all your commands because he will be watching and ready to follow your lead.

your dog needs to take you seriously. If you mean instructions such as come when you call and off when you say so. Work with your dog on her name and patience, have it sit a little longer for that treat and praise it when it does. your dog needs to know that you have its best interest and you know what is best for it. Also keep the lesions short 2-3 mins 3x a day

I never try to teach Daffy a new trick until she has puppy time and her nap. then she is ready to listen .we play for snacks for 15 min and play for hugs the rest of the day. my 6 mo old Boxer puppy can
sit,lay down, bow ,open the fridge,(yeah, self taught but she can do it on command lol)STOP and heel. at 6 mos she wont do everything at first command but that will come with more training and maturity!

Make sure to give treats with cooperation. Best to do when they're hungry or they'll lose interest. Keep lessons down to 5-10 min.
