Is there anyway to go online and get a credit score that really is free? Everything I have tried always requires a membership to something.

That seems ot be their scam.. They claim its free but then they require membership and then will only give it to you free if they can send it to you by snail mail.

I use the experian credit monitoring service. It costs 14.95 /month and 5 dollars each time you check your score. It basically emails you and informs every time something to do with your credit is involved whether it be positive or negative. 20 dollars a month is well worth compared to all the costs associated with credit problems.

Not that I am aware of. A lot of people are confused with the right to a free credit report. The fair credit reporting act does entitle you to a free copy of your credit report from each of the three major reporting agencies once a year but it does not provide you with the right to your credit score for free. Typically after receiving your credit report the sites you are on will solicit you to purchase the right to see your credit score.

https://www.annualcreditreport.com/
Completely free once per year for each of the 3 major credit reporting agencies, Experian, Equifax, and TransUnion. Annualcreditreport.com is the ONLY officially recognized site for the free credit reports. Check this link from the Federal Trade Commission where they talk about Annualcreditreport.com and also about these impostor sites some other answerers are mentioning.

Note that even if you go to Experian, Equifax and TransUnion's webpages that even they will try to sucker you into a pay report. Only Annualcreditreport.com has the real free reports.
