I'm going on a trip with my mom and younger brothers this saturday and my dad wants to buy AAA for us just in case there's car trouble/emergency. We don't want to be changing a flat in the the middle of the cold desert, especially if night falls.
If I buy a membership online is there a temporary card I can get/print right after I sign up and pay
or do they have to review the application and they get back to me in a couple of days?
The AAA card would be under mom + dad's names but my boyfriend wants to drive us in his car, if mom's also in the car and we have a car emergency in the my bf's car, will AAA also cover that?

I don't know if you can get a temporary card online. Even if this is possible, you don't want to risk any delays due to technical glitches.

I recommend calling your nearest AAA office and asking if you can have a card issued on the spot if your sign up in person. Benefits start once you sign up but with the holidays approaching you want to make sure you are in the system with an AAA representative in person.

Last I time I checked, all that was required was the AAA card member had to be a passenger. Ask & make sure. Family memberships are available in my state and might be worth the extra money.

My state's AAA (California) has 2 levels of benefits - limited & unlimited so you should inquire. Limited saves some money but unlimited offers more peace of mind.

Other benefit of AAA membership is free road maps & travel guides with discounts at certain hotels and retail establishments. Some offices will plot out your driving directions on a special map called a Trip-tik.

FYI, put the AAA in an easily accessible/viewed part of your wallets, store the emergency phone # in your cell phones & have a flash light handy so you can read your card info. at night.

Keep a car cell phone re-charger with you on the trip & check your cell charges. Give a copies of your itinerary to a few trusted friends & family members. Check in with them at regular intervals so they know your progress & whether or not you are on schedule.

Well first you have to find a sponsor. Then you have to work the 12 steps and...

Oh wait did you say AAA?

Nevermind...
