There are no academies offering Krav Maga in the panhandle area. What style comes close to that art? I'm interested in the close combat fighting style.

Thanks.

Aikido is not CQC, or a substitute for Krav Maga for that matter. CQC is CQC, not hapkido, judo, aikido, whatever... it is different in that it places emphasis on vital strikes, and maiming techniques. you will find that CQC doesnt use closed fists, but open palms, chops. the first difference I found between CQC and other martial sciences was that in CQC you dont jump around dodging and weaving, you go frontal and attack forward, never letting up on the damage. no tit for tat, you then me, crap.

if it throws a fist, it isnt CQC.
if it takes a block, strike, block strike approach it isnt CQC.
if it teaches you to jump around your opponent waiting for a sweet moment it isnt CQC.
if it teaches defense it is not CQC. (attack or offensive is the way to go).
if you wrestle it isnt CQC.

it isnt a power/strength struggle, it is a take out, and as fast as you can. the longer the fight goes, the possibility that you are going to lose rises. people get tired, so destroy them before you do. traditional arts teach tit for tat fighting, and doesnt prepare people for the violence of continued assault. if you currently dont train for continued assault, you should when you have time, with friends. see how you go, and what needs to change in your mindset.

anyway... it may be worth driving a little distance to get what you want, than learn something you will regret.

Aikido
Hapkido
Judo
traditional Jujitsu (not BJJ)

Aikido is what Steven Segal is highly trained in... So just by watching how he fights in his movies will give you an idea of some of the techniques you will learn in Aikido which is very similar to Hapkido. Judo would be the next closest to those 2 then Jujitsu would be next.
Before all the people go on about how Steven Segal movies aren't real fighting... I know that I am purely making an example...

Aikido is pretty much a joke at this point. Its so watered down now... thats more of a mix of aikido and combat hapkido that you so steven do now.

Before we all waste your time listing other martial arts that aren't available in your area, why don't you list the schools that are available, and we can make suggestions as to which one might be close to what you are looking for?
