You are right. It means just like whether a note is a fake note or a real one. It needs authenticity. Its better to have it proven right. Anyway, the best way is to follow what your heart tells you . Sometimes the best proof is that it lasts! It doesn't die off after a while and every time your instincts are right! That's faith! Its a feeling.

A lot of people believe in things with no proof -god for example.

yes. you could be positive that your mom is really you mom. then you find out she isn't and you whole world turns upside down. Your mind is now prodominantely focused on who you are and where you come from and you don't have time to care about anything else around you. You wander away from home crying one night and then the police find you and the shove you in the car but you refuse and kick and scream and then they threaten to shoot you to which to start sobbing histerically and then you have to explain to your fake mom why you can't love her and why you don't belong here.
