Someone I care about told me they loved me. He had gotten some bad news and was going through a rough time. My response was "no you don't". The only reason I said it was before he said he didn't want to get attached. I guess a person can change their mind but i'm not really sure.

Yes, I think you made a mistake. He did too by refusing to get attached before. Wanna know how you should fix it? Go tell him that you told him what you did because you couldn't believe that he could change his mind about you. He will probably tell you something you need to hear. He didn't want to get attached before, but you obviously both care about each other now. Why not just give it a chance? What's the worst that could happen? Good luck!

A person can say many things and not mean them. Maybe he said he didnt want to get attached, and he did get attached. You cant control the way your feelings progress, and you cant stop yourself from feeling something for someone. So if you feel the same way maybe you should give him a chance, maybe you should talk to him about the possibility about taking things further. If not then just be his friend. Help him through his hard time.

You said what you felt, that's not a mistake.

The first time my boyfriend told me he loved me I told him I didn't believe him, and well we have been together for like 5 years. So don't worry, everything can be patched over. Chances are he won't even remember.

No, you didn't make a mistake. You should've maybe broadened the conversation if you want a future with the person, and anyway if you don't love him back ---you completely got out of that one.:)

You probably hurt his feelings, and because he was going through a rough time, probably expected you to say it back

there probably was a better way you could have said it...however, don't leave it at that, call the person and explain yourself, just talk it out and I'm sure everything will be fine.

he'll understand why you said that if you just explain to him why you said it. If you care about him that much, talk to him because not talking will just make things worse and more complicated in the end

No I don't think you made a mistake. Maybe you should sit down and discuss it with him more to see if that is really how he feels.

Well, you might have been right, or you might not.. even he might not know his own mind - all you can do is wait and see... He might be a bit annoyed that you think you know him better than he knows himself - thing is, it could be true... it's just impossible to tell.

If he really loves you it will come up again.

In the meantime just carry on as usual.
