I think the most logical answer to this is that they just haven't memorized every last verse, and they want to look it up to see all the context of it.
I mean, I know I haven't memorized it all.

The reason we ask you to prove where it says that in the Holy Bible, because you may have left out parts. You say you know the Bible better than most Christians? You don't know what you are talking about!!! You said, "Jesus never spoke of sins" Can you show us that in the Bible? NO
In fact he did speak of sin, in the book of Matthew 9:10
Mt 9:10 "But that ye may know that the Son of man hath power on earth to forgive sins"
Matthew 26:28 For this is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many for the remission of sins.
Mark 2:7 When Jesus saw their faith, he said unto the sick of the palsy, Son, thy sins be forgiven thee.
Mark 2:9 Mark 2:10 Mark3:28 Luke 5:20 Luke 5:23 & 24 Luke 7:47
So Jesus never spoke of sins in the Bible, just what Bible are you reading???
You should sit down and read the whole Bible from front to back some time, you will see why there are ex Atheists out there.
,
Just so you will know, the verse you misquoted is in Luke 23:34 Father forgive them; for they know not what they do. And they parted his raiment, and cast lots.

He is right about Rev 22:18-19. The bible had not even been compiled yet when John wrote Revelation. God made the decision as to which books he wanted included in the bible. The people who put the bible together were inspired by God. Just like each bible book is inspired by God. The book of Mormon had no historical significance and no teaching ability. The bible was written for all mankind. The bible also says at 2 Tim. 3:16 that all scripture is inspired of God and beneficial. Nothing is said about the book of Mormon. Man needs no other book other than the bible. There are many books better written than the book of Mormon and they were not included with the holy scriptures. The book of Mormon contradicts the bible. Why would God have two different opinions about certain matters? The Mormons do not believe that Jesus was concieved without intercourse from a man.The book of Mormon is inspired by Satan and not by God.

Sometimes a christian knows a verse in the bible but just does not remember which chapter or verse....Yes Jesus did say that. This does not mean however that all sins are forgiven- this means that those who put their FAITH in Jesus Christ will be forgiven- it is important to stick to the context of scripture too.
Many christians should be studying the word- it is what keeps us from straying- and helps us make a defense for God. It also keeps us in tune with God and knowing His will apart from our own. We are to abide by what the Bible says, and continue studying it, for the Holy Spirit teaches those who love the Lord. And God has A LOT to teach us! You say He never spoke of sins and sinners on the cross- so does that mean you disregard the scriptures where He does speak of sins and sinners? That is also important, not to pick and choose what scriptures to live by- for it is all God breathed and all has meaning- and it all ties together--even though some do not see it...God reveals it to many and those who are truly seeking Him. Just as Jeremiah 33:3 says "Call to Me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know"
-Love that verse!

There are some that are new to the faith, or were raised in a Church where referencing the Bible was not encouraged. You're being too judgemental. Not everyone has the same Bible knowledge, atheists included.

no it means they want you to prove what you said because you may have just said that for example jesus said something, that, he didn't in fact say. you were asked for a bible verse because they probably didn't like you saying that jesus said something that wasnt exactly what he said. people can really get offended, think about it...

I completely agree. Christians should read God's word, and they should know it from front to back. We should be ready to give an account for every question asked. But I don't think that reading it and knowing it will turn me into an athiest.
