I worked in a home where they brought people in that could not be cared for in a regular home setting. Those people did not want to go into an assisted living situation. They were mad and violent but they had no choice. We knew how to diffuse the situation and they mellowed out and became pleasant. Their doctor can prescribe medication to help with the transistion also. If it needs to be done, then there is no choice and usually after a few days they are ok.

You can call your local mental health department and tell them the situation and they can direct you further. However, who ever has medical power of attorney over is responsible for making sure they get the proper care. If no one has power of attorney then you can go to court and the judge will award power attorney to the person who is pursuing the issue. But, BEFORE anybody can do anything that person has to be evaluated to be deemed mentally incompetent and that is where your mental health department comes into play. I hope this answers your question and this is a situation that we are all to familiar with.

My grandmother is going through that now. Someone has to get either power of attorney or some sort of control of her care and have her placed in a facility. My school teacher grandmother had live-in care who she verbally abused until her sister who had power of attorney over her had her placed in a home. When they are at that level where they become mean and abusive they aren't in their right mind anymore. They need to have someone intervene!

You can have them picked up on a Mental Health warrant, they'll be taken to a psych facility for an evaluation. Good luck!

If a doctor deems it necessary for them to be in a facility for their own safety as well as others, they of course would have no choice in the matter.

Relatives can give over control of someone who is mentally incompetent to the state.

i think taht when people lose their minds like that someone has the authority to put them in a home. my g-mom just has a stroke and she is impossible. if she gets her physical stregnth back she will kill my g-dad i am sure. i told him that allhe would have to do id prove that she is not capable of a rational thought and they will commit her. he does not want to do that but knows that if the time comes he may have to. it is very sad, but you have to know that they do not understand what reality is anymore.

You could go to your local magistrate and petition for involuntary committment and let the hospital decide what is the best course of action...
