Kitten! The big perk to having pets is that they become just as attached to you as you are to them. Adopting an older cat doesn't give you the opportunity to raise them to the point where they know and trust you completely. Kittens don't really require that much energy, unlike puppies. All you have to do is throw a toy on the ground and they're amused for hours. The early age is when they're the most fun, so that's what I'd suggest.

It depends on the family situation. Kittens should not be in homes with children much under four unless you are prepared to constantly monitor the interactions between cat and child.
An older cat (at least a year) can easily jump up out of the way of a persistent child. A kitten can learn to be very fearful of humans (and the children) and then not have the chance to develop into a well-socialized cat.

I say a kitten. It is more work, but to me the payoff is better. I'm incredibly close to my cat that I got from the shelter at 6 weeks old. We adopted a cat that is about her age now, which is around 9 months, and I don't feel that bond as strongly. New cat was also possibly abused, which you also have to factor in when adopting a pet. I say go to a shelter and find the one that you connect with, regardless of age.

Depends on how active you are....Kittens are sooo cute and are usually adopted before an adult cat, but through experience, if you've never adopted or owned a cat before, I would go with the adult cat. They're already mellow and have developed their own personality. Kittens (i just adopted one recently) are a hand full - they're like little children who get into everything - you need to keep on top of them constantly....but their so fun and active to be around. So, it depends on how much time you have and what kind of personality you're ready for...

It depends on how much time you spend at home. If you are busy with school/work/etc, an adult cat would be the best fit.
Kittens are great, but they only stay kittens for so long. Adult cats need homes, kittens basically have homes land in their paws.

Get a kitten that's about 6 months old. By then, you'll be able to get a better idea of what their personality is going to be like, yet you can still enjoy their kittenish ways. A newly weaned kitten is just like any other baby...a blank slate, so you don't know if their personality is going to fit yours.

I would say cats, because they are usually already litter trained etc. It might take them longer to adjust but in the long run it will save you a lot of time and less damage to furniture, curtains, etc.
