does the hijab represent anything religiously?
why do muslim girls wear hijabs, then tight clothes and make-up? isn't that totally contradictory? to be a respectable person, you don't need to cover yourself up like that, there are many women around the world who don't cover themselves like that from head to toe, but are very respectable because they aren't cheap either, should i be less respected than a muslim girl with a hijab even though i never wear skimpy skirts or shirts or make-up? if it is for the respect of a woman, how does polygamy give women respect?

you cannot possibly stop the natural reaction a man has upon seeing another woman, just knowing that he's talking to a woman, even if she's covered, initiates an attraction, that's just natural

The hijab is worn for modesty reasons. That some muslim women, mostly in western nations, wear the hijab with tight fitting, sexually provocative clothing is somewhat of a contradiction.

According to Islam there are two types of hijab, internal and external. Internal hijab is the modesty and the way one is to conduct one's self. External hijab is about the clothes one wears in front of people who are not supposed to see the woman's beauty. Wearing flashy common clothing underneath is slightly contradictory, even though the clothing underneath will likely only be seen by those who are allowed to see her unveiled since modesty should go across the board, but that's her personal choice between her and Allah.
External hijab is a cultural choice on types (burqa, chador, abaya, etc.) but it's mentioned in the Q'uran and Sunnah. You've got to look at it from the perspective of the woman choosing to obey this, especially among Western women who aren't allegedly "forced" to wear the veil in other countries. Aminah Assilmi had some interesting defenses of it, along with other women writers who defend hijab, you just have to do a tiny bit of research and you'll find what a joy it is to many believing women.
Don't be afraid to reach out and do research from their point of view and ask. There are wonderful books and DVDs available that can be found in various Islamic bookstores online and locally (if you live somewhere where there's a decent Muslim population).
You have to understand that there are various interpretations, too. Many good Muslims understand that men are to also behave modestly and avert their eyes, etc., so it's not all about Islam "beating down women" (as it's perceived by so many). Enjoy the research. The more you read, the more you'll understand how amazingly beautiful Islam can be for those who choose to follow.
Respect in this world, as you're referring to it, comes from the fact that there are people who will or will not respect you according to their own ability/desire to do so, and dress doesn't really matter at that point, which makes the argument FOR hijab just that much stronger for many Muslimahs in the West.
Hope this helps.

Hijab is not only a scarf but for a women to cover her body. Those girls who walk out like that don't really represent the meaning of Hijab. I agree with you a respectful person does not always have to cover, but how do you garuntee me that the guy I am talking to does not have fantasies in his mind that instant. I don't care if the guy respects me for who i am, because men are men no matter who you meet and I am not going to wear whatever i want and say men have to respect me for who I am when I won't respect myself. I am not saying that every women should cover up but I am saying why Islam told the woman to cover.

personally, I don't think the actual scarf is absolutely mandatory (it is never directly mentioned in the Koran). It is more of a concept to be modest. You should cover your bosom, wear fairly loose clothing (def. NO miniskirts or bikinis etc.). You should act appropriately and talk about good subjects (not gossip or sex/pop culturey things). Don't try to draw a ton of attention to yourself. You should look pleasant (I like that word...not sexy or hot), clean, don't stink, shower, take care of yourself, maybe a couple jewelreys or very light makeup. I'm not a fan of loads of makeup, flashy jewelry, tight clothes etc. I think it looks ugly on girls. Anyway that's just my input on modesty.
Polygamy (wow, thats a whole other subject). Many people think that God permitted polygamy but really he restricted it to 4 wives (instead of hundreds). The reason is, that after wars there were many widowed women with no husband to support them and their children (while some could independently support themselves it often proved a burden that they couldn't ever go out at night without being harrassed or find a good job that hasn't een taken). Allah allowed a man to marry these wives under the condition that he treat them all fairly. The other wife can divorce if she doesn't agree with it but usually men prefer one wife because it is the natural way of life. God restricted more than one wife for men that fear they can't treat all equally. It has nothing to do with respect, just more practical to allow polygamy not promote it. It is only used under dire circumstances to help the widowed women, not for sexual use or whatever. AMazingly the prophet had 9 wives throughout his life and only 6 children (4 of which survived). That would mean less than one child per person and considering there was no contraception that pretty much speaks for itself. Anyway I hope this cleared things up. God bless.

Islam asks women to cover their aurat ( which is from head to toe not including your palm and face).. and also Muslim women are ask not to wear tight cloth but it depend on them to cover it up or not.. My opinion is that a women body is a valuable thing and men should not easily lay eyes on it.. Wearing descend cloth doesn't mean your cheap also...

It was once required of a females in Christianity to hide her hair, i do not precisely do not forget the bible verse however i do know that it is written that if a females is going to church together with her head no longer blanketed her head needed to be shaved, it was once within the ancient testiment i do not forget that a lot. It wasn't till lately females did not quilt themselves in church buildings or in public. According to Judaism it is a requirement that a married Jewish females quilt her hair in public. That once more is not practiced anymore. Head coverings are located in every religion, simply contemporary occasions in general most probably the feminist routine ended such practices

Hijab is just to provide respect to woman. She doesnot look like she is a product advertising on streets. She got some thing else except sex and her legs and other body views. Its not necessary to cover your whole face . you should not wear tight clothes and your who body down your face should be covered with loose clothes which does not show your body shape. What do think this is respect for women to give her right to sell her like product on newspapers and other medias. In old times christians and jews also used to wear Hijab because it gives respect to woman she doesnot look just like a open fire. In old times before the time of last prophit mohammad (PBUH) women were just like animals used for sex and sold like products. People used to kill thier newly born daughters but when islam changed whole system with justice and respect and proper rules to get rid of problems one by one. Once one muslim woman came to prophit mohammad (PBUH) and she told him there some non muslims on the streets and they were looking me in a bad way and i did not feel good in this way so prophit asked those guys they said they did not know she is muslim or not so Prophit Mohammad (PBUH) made a rule to do hijab so in this way any body can understand who is coming ,, she is muslim and they dont like it. But no need to hide your whole face but no need to show your make up and beauty to strangers , this is just for your husband. Women are soft hearted and depending by nature and thats thier beauty. They have different qualities and responsibilities as well. There is no life with out them . So if a woman and man never had any relationship before so abviously they will stick with each other because they will love each other with full power and strength after marriage. Otherwise if woman and man they dont know thier rules so there are problems in marriages just because of that. People cant stay with one woman for long time. After on child they think thier wife is old and that half naked girl is more attractive than her because there is sex is life and every thing culture every where so for better sex go to next . is that woman' respect when his own husband just want her for sex thats it. Woman always cry when man leave them in most cases . is it true or not. so dont sell yourself like that . you all as woman are priceless and your heart and care is more than beautiful than your body. That is reason behind Hijab. Might be you can understand it. if you cant you should read Quran .. You will learn amazing things.Last forever origional holy book of ALLAH who is just only one GOD. because all other holy were changed by some greedy preachers to fullfill their need and pockets.
