In Northern Montana HD (hunting district) 410, the Missouri River breaks. Its a draw area only for rifle hunting, but over the counter, (even for out of state) for archery. For rifle hunting if you draw a tag you are almost guaranteed a 350+ bull, the bull tags are very limited even for Montana residents, because it is part of CMR (Charles M Russell) wildlife refuge.
I hunt there allot and have seen more big bulls there than anywhere else I have ever hunted, and I was an outfitter for 6 years in Montana and Idaho, and have hunted in 6 states and Canada.
I put in for a HD 410 bull permit every year. I have only got 1 in the last seven years.
If you can draw a tag for that area, or if you are an archery hunter you can go there with no guide and take a huge bull.
The 2 closest towns to that area are Winnett Mt, and Grass Range Mt.
Good luck.

Depending on your location I would contact or visit the BLM in that state Idaho maps cost only $4 for one and they show how to get into the BLM from the highways. Most states have a BLM website or talk to the fish and game just know you might get more useless info than useful info from a FandG officer.

If you do not take a self guided trip be careful about who chose as a guide. I had friend whose sun was almost arrested because the guide was sneaking them across a state border. But my father went on several great self guided hunts. He never had any luck but always had a great time.

Believe it or not you can buy hunting trips off of eBay at a reasonable price. Some people purchase them and then are unable to go. Check it out, you might be pleasantly suprised.
