I know that working in the department stores around the Holiday's can't be easy and I have had my fare share of working behind the customer service counter and I also know that some customers can be real nasty. and this isn't just for the people working in the stores some of the customer's are just as RUDE or worse. I thought that this was suppose to be a happy time of the year?

Isn't Christmas day the same date every year?

No need for ANYONE to be stressed because you have an entire year to plan and buy gifts for the people on your list. If you are shopping for kids it isn't so easy to buy early because of "hot" toys, but you can shop for Aunt Penny and Uncle Bob any time of the year. No need to put yourself in debt either because you simply just start saving money early and only spend what you have! If you can't afford gifts then MAKE them! If you worry about finding the time to bake something.....Order whatever you need from the bakery and put it in your own pie tin or bag!

Buy a skinny tree with lights and decorations and about a month before Christmas go downstairs and bring it up and plug it in.

I'm positive that I am one of the few people in this world that is totally stress free this time of the year.

People are rude and nasty because they try to do too much at the last minute instead of planning for what they know is coming.
Half of all the problems in this world are because people just don't think ahead and live only for the moment.

Happiness is staying at home or shopping on the internet! ;)

The holiday season (for Christianity), for the most part, has nothing to do with the celebration of "Christ-mas". It's predominantly about consumerism and stressing out about getting the newest toy for the kiddies. That's why a lot of people are such assholes during the season. Stress = aggrevation = people being intolerable.

This is just an opinion from a city girl, who also knows the ropes of customer service.

People in general are in a rush to fill their gift list. Like driving, you have a plan and someone gets in your way, construction slows you down and your plan falls apart. People want to do 3 hours of shopping in 30 minutes and when their plan falls apart they can lose it, become irritable, mean and self-centered.
So I guess you could say the stress and hassle people put on themselves to find the perfect gift, makes them focus on their wants and not the true meaning of Christmas.
Now that playing religious based Christmas carols are banned in most public places and signage is confined to Happy Holidays and Seasons Greetings, people can too easily forget the true meaning of Christmas. I think if we brought back the images and sounds of what Christmas really means, people would be more relaxed and focused on what is really important, the birth of the Christ child.

Holidays are very emotional times for people. Usually a whole group of emotion show up. For many people, it is a time of
depression, and they don't care who they hurt, because they want everyone to feel as bad as they do. Just because its Christmas, doesn't mean everyone is in a GOOD mood.
By the way MERRY CHRISTMAS.

In my opinion it all comes down to how people choose to act. If rudeness is in you, it will come out when you are under pressure if you allow it to. Any of us can be rude at any time, but we choose not to be. Everyone has the option to exercise self-control. Most people are just too lazy or uncaring to bother. They figure they will not likely being seeing that person again, don't know them, etc. Few people really make the effort to exercise self-control and try to be nice and polite. Just putting yourself in another person's shoes for a minute will help you remember to be kind, but for most people, that is an unimportant waste of time. Too bad, huh?

People are running on adrenaline this time of year. Because of societal expectations, the holidays are a very stressful time of year with many events and objects crammed into a short period of celebration.

I don't think is the holiday itself. I think is the pressure to get presents, new clothe, shoes, more presents, etc. which is NOT the meaning of the holiday.
