I'm 39 years old and still battle with blackheads and acne... it's so frustrating. I have moderately oily skin, and most products that clear the acne, dry out the rest of my face. Does anyone have advice for someone of my age still struggling with these problems!

I had the same problem and eventually realized that my acne was getting even worse when I used the heavy acne treatments -- not just the overall dryness of the skin, but I was starting to have more trouble with inflammation.

I've started using a calming cleanser morning and night and alternating between an acne medication with benzoyl peroxide and a soothing moisturizer. (I use the moisturizer at night because it makes it easier to put makeup on in the morning).

I had tried acne wash/acne cream/moisturizer, but I found that using the gentle cleanser did make a huge difference in how well my skin reacted to small breakouts.

I've had great luck with aveeno's ultra-calming product line and eucerin's redness relief cream coupled with regular persa-gel acne gel. Using a clay masque once a week helps with the blackheads... and now that I'm avoiding the really harsh "acne masques" I'm not breaking out as badly the day after, either. Good luck!

You should not be worried because there are many acne products that really work like Proactiv not because celebs use it but because the product is not bad quality and dont believe the stuff that has to do with junk foods because that really dosent effect your acne.

Treat you face for acne in the morning. Moisturize it in the night and let it recoop. try Zap It from Melaleuca. It's a natural product with tea tree oil, witch hazel and salicylic acid. In the night try their Nicole Miller Night Release miosturizer

I can send you an enrollment email if you are interested and want to order from the internet at the preffered customer price.

It is hormones. You are in the pre menopause stage (starts in your 30s). Use whatever acne product has a moisturizer in it. Wash your face every morning and night and change your pillow case often. Makeup is the worst offender - check out ingredients carefully.

You should visit a dermtalogist before trying any products because some products can have reactions with your face. Sometimes pharmicists at Walgreens and Rite-Aid suggest products for your skin. Before trying anything, ask a professional.

In a nutshell:

1) use a salicylic acid product (BHA); and
2) use a glycolic acid product (AHA); and
3) use cool Benzoyl Peroxide on cooled skin; and
4) use an oil-free moisturizer with a sunblock of SPF 15 or higher - in that order.

For more details, read the book.

Avoid oily foods. Wash your face. I use this all natural soap. I'm not sure what it's called, but the company's name is Pears (use wiki or google it). Hope this helps! :)
