No, Muslims should not celebrate Christmas. She might be caught up in the whole "Western" lifestyle and is neglecting to find out more about her faith. There is nothing wrong with being diplomatic and learning about the Holiday but to actually partake is not right. Muslims do believe in Christ (peace be upon him) as a Prophet and was born a miraculous birth by a VIRGIN mother (contradictory to what FAZ above says, she needs to learn more about our faith), but do not believe he is the son of Allah or had any divinity.

Some Muslims do celebrate Christmas.
Muslims follow the prophet Mohammed who came after Jesus. Some of the Muslims, who were originally Jews, accepted Jesus as a prophet or as the Messiah. Later when Mohammed came along many of those who became Muslims continued to venerate Jesus as a prophet, but most then rejected he was the Messiah.
So to this day some Muslims still venerate Jesus even though it conflicts with fundamentalist Islamic beliefs.
Mohammed basically said worship god and god alone and no other, and so anyone worshipping the son of god may be considered to be worshipping an inferior being to god because in Islam Jesus is a prophet, not god.
However the message Jesus shared is still highly valued in Islam even if his status is not so high among Muslims as among Christians.

It may be a part of the western culture that has made its way into the traditional Islam life. I'm sure some Muslims that live in the US give gifts and such at this time of year.
Muslims don't celebrate "Christmas" ...i.e. the birth of Jesus Christ, the Christian Savior.
Islam has many different celebrations according to the Muslim calendar. Check it out at the link below.
There are varying degrees of convervatism within Islam and some may think it's ok to celebrate western or Christian holidays and some may not.

Christmas can be celebrated as a secular holiday, and it is celebrated that way by many people. Many of the Christmas traditions pre-date Christianity, and Jesus was not born in the winter.
I just read a good article about how different people approach Christmas: http://www.belfasttelegraph.co.uk/features/daily-features/article2092488.ece There's a Muslim perspective in this article too.
Also, ask your friend about her holiday celebrations. Some of my best friends from high school were from different countries, and they were very polite and enjoyed my questions.

Well I am not Christian and I still celebrate Christmas. I personally view it more as a time to enjoy family and friends and share good cheer.
Christmas has become a very commercial event, often times people don't even reflect upon the religious quantity of the day. I don't really enjoy the commercial aspect of it as much as I do the possibility it holds with bringing people together to share love and companionship.
Maybe your friend feels the same.

She's in a place where they celebrate Christmas, so she does also. When in Rome ...
ANyhow, Christmas has very little to do with Christianity anyway. It's more about celebrating the change in the seasons and the return of the light, getting together with family and friends, and giving businesses a boost.

Most Muslims do not celebrate Christmas because it has no meaning in Islam. Maybe she does it because of the spirit of Christmas, the good feelings many people get around Christmas time. I live in a Muslim country and occasionally I see decorations and window displays advertising Christmas, but generally no one here celebrates it. They have their own religious holidays that they faithfully celebrate.

In fact, no!
We Muslims dont celebrate Christmas. But we dont have any objection if someone celebrates the birth day of a Prophet of God.

Are you really sure that she is muslim? She may be Arabic and you probably thought right away that she was muslim. Or, she might have been respectful to the Holiday but she does not celebrate it. However, I assure you that us muslims DO NOT celebrate Christmas.

Muslims recognize Jesus Christ as a profit and holy man. So I imagine it would not be wrong for them to celebrate his birth. It has long been a complaint of Muslims that many Christians slander their religion but it would be a sin for them to slander ours.
