Life!

2006-12-21 05:14:51 · answer #1 · answered by Anonymous · 0 0

It's really variable. Some people have brief depressions that remit within a few weeks or a couple months. Others have chronic depressions that can last for years. Also the type and cause of the depression may play a factor. Bipolar depressions and biological major depressions may spontaneously remit after a period of time or they may continue until the person gets treatment with medication. Seasonal depressions tend to last until the season changes. Reactive depressions can last as long as the stressors that caused it are still present.

It depends on the specifics of the situation, that can be very complex,

it can last a few days or a lifetime if someone does not take the proper actions towards helping and healing themselves, drugs often mask the real problem at hand, mental therapy can help and sometimes a person needs to change the way they think.

for people with bad child hoods and crappy parents I would recommend the book "Bad Childhood, Good Life"

Very hard answer. Sometimes it lasts for days and sometimes months. I find personally winter is the hardest because there isn't much sunlight and its just basically dreary here during winter.

If you feel like your suddenly depressed and you know for a fact its not because of stuff thats happening in your life, then it might take awhile and you usually can't "fix" it right away if you don't see a doctor about it. Sometimes it goes away, sometimes it won't. Don't let yourself get too bad, but you usually don't need help right away because it might go away. (saves you a lot of money)

Depression never really goes away but with meds and therapy the symptoms can be much more tolerable. The important thing for anyone suffering from depression and taking meds is that you continue taking the meds even if the symptoms are gone...That means they are working!!! Good luck
