I'm not a muslim sympathiser - but I did used to work in a tax office.
**Let me add something for non-UK residents responding to the question - council tax is the amount paid on a persons residential property collected by the local council and the majority of which passed to the county council. Though places of worship may be exempt they could NOT be places where anyone actually lived so a house with people praying would certainly not qualify for any exemption or discount under council tax legislation. It sounds like propaganda cooked up by some racist group.**

Ok first to all you americans....
Council tax is payed by every house in engalnd (not sure about ireland and the rest) and is quite a large payment that is paid every year. A lot of poorer people in lower paid jobs have a lot of difficulty paying it as there are huge increases each year in the tax. It also Increases for houses in better areas.
As for the muslims cheating it, I am pretty sure quite a few of them will be doing it, should it work like old know all said.
As no council in thes country will dare oppose anything muslims do or request as they will be called racist, then there is a good chance that they can declare their house a mosque and quite easily pay none or very little council tax without anybody from the council doing any proper checks or opposing their statement of the house bieng a mosque.
Buy the real reason they have so much money is not that they are all ripping off the councils, but that they are both very good at ripping off the english (have you seen the prices in the corner shops!) and the main reason - They don't drink alcohol or smoke.... just think how much money you would have if you had saved every penny you have so far spent on beer & cigarettes......

How could you say muslims do that just because you're claiming they can? Every one muslim who I know works, and a lot of them do as well. Look at how many british people here sit on their asses because they are not bothered to go out and get a job. You can't just generalise this to muslims. Plus the ones with the flashy cars and big houses that you're thinking of are probably them rich arabs.

A council tax sounds like a local or city tax so it is possible what you say is correct. However, city taxes are much less than federal or state taxes. Plus, since I have never heard of this, I suspect it isn't happening in too many cities.
