It depends on the crime. They usually get placed in juvenile but depending on the crime and how many times they've been in juvenile they could get charged as an adult.

Often times it depends on the crime that was committed. Even though the law says you are an adult at 18...you can still get charged as an adult at 17 years old.
Hopefully your friend will be able to get community services, probation or Juvenile detention.
My husband was 17 years old when he was first in trouble with the law and was charged as an adult. It was quite stupid too...but he's 23 years old and we have been married less than 2 years...and he is still facing the consequences of his teenage mistakes.

It depends on the crime just like with adults. You are old enough to know better just too young too give a ****. You will get in trouble just depends what you did exactly to determine what it is you will be punished with.

It depends on what he did, and how long he is going to jail for. 17 in most states is a consenting adult.
