We trust 18 year olds to have guns in the military and they can buy them in most states.

AK47 is a reliable and easy to maintain weapon. We have millions in storage and could manufacture an American Spinoff if neceaasry, to have Made In USA on the stock.

I think its highly dependent on how much ammunition you let them have...
but even with a single shot mode...
#2 would take an unending supply...
#1 couldn't be right b/c deer season around here, somebody always gets shot but the deer to human ratio is still high
#3...maybe it would do away with these "no knock" raid nonsense
but where the police don't go in, the national guard will...
#5 probably wouldn't work because social equality includes economic equality....and somebody bound to have more bullets even if the government gave out a lot of ammo as well cause im sure there will be a market for that....(campbell's soup for a round?)
#6 wouldn't work b/c the battering husband would have an AK himself
#7 probably wouldn't work b/c a burgeoning market of AK-47 knows no borders....as with everything chicago school of economics GO GLOBAL! Go apeshit! Go Goldman-Sachs! Ho Ho HO

neat idea though but considering the recent outcry over unsafe buses (which are virtual tanks), i could(n't) imagine any thing more unlikely...:)

but um.....#4 maybe?

Why do you want to outsource to China the for AK47? Why not an american made long arm?
But to respond:
To support your suggestion that the government should issue weapons and training could be accomplished by requiring mandatory military service.
I would suggest that firearms awareness and training should be taught in schools, in elementary school safety should be stressed, in high school, proficiency. Second and nineth amendments should be taught as they originally were intended.
1.) This would be a safer place because fear of tools would be lessened, and unbiased information would be available.
2.) We would evolve into a less paranoid society, as we are becoming fearfull of our government as a society, and our founding fathers foresaw this. There are many quotes from the early forgers of our indepenence warning us about it.
3.) We would not and should not eliminate police and courts, but we should require the police and courts to support each other, and enforce the laws of the basic constitution. leniency is not always the best option.
4.) Racial and social equality will not come about because of equal armament, it is more important to remove special interest groups and have everyone earn positions, jobs, and status based on who actually earns it, and not on quotas based on race and heritage.
6.) Although guns might be a detterent to battery, or other crimes, they are not to be depended on, or used for revenge.
7.) The Border commision still has not been able to define border defense, and having the right to own guns is not a liscence for vigilantism. However, in the event border crossers become violent, it is a persons right to defend his life and property.

None of the above. Most people would just store their guns away safely and not use them. In Switzerland, after mandatory military service, everyone gets to keep their gun; regardless, Switzerland is one of the most peaceful countries in the world. Giving a person a gun would not change a peaceful person into a non-peaceful person. There may be an increase in gun crime because, inevitably, these weapons would find their way into the wrong hands, but, for the most part, there would not be any dramatic change in society that is suggested by the choices that have been presented in the question.

I like that there wouldn't be any more battered women, but at the same time...what if those arses who beat their wives use the AKs on them. I This it would be a very bad idea to give everyone a gun. There are some freaking crazies out there.

How about eliminating guns totally? Look at many of the brighter nations around us. Japan, Great Britain, Australia, and Sweden all have significantly lower crime rates than the U.S. greatly attributed to their strict gun laws. Ours are very lax, with one of the worst averages of murder by guns in the world. Giving out AKs wouldn't help.

Well, put it this way. If everyone was armed and a couple of armed robbers decided to rob a store at gunpoint and all the patrons were armed including the storekeepers.

Wouldn't you love to view the CCTV video of what happens to the gun toting armed robbers?

why would anyone want an AK-47 when an AR-15 is a much better weapon?

None of the above. You can not expect that half the people would use them responsibly. Especially 18 year olds.
