That may be true because the body of a lobster resembles the body of an insect. But somehow they live in the ocean, and people eat them all the time. Go figure.

No, lobsters are not insects.

If you look at the scientific nomenclature...

Lobsters are Animalia, Arthropoda, Crustacea...

Roaches are Animalia, Arthropoda, Insecta...

They are both arthropods, but the lobster is a crustacean and the roach in an insect. While there's a relation, it isn't any more of a direct link than any other living thing that is Animalia, Arthropoda, such as the tarantula. And we know that people are VERY adamant about spiders not being insects...

No lobsters aren't insects! But Alton was correct, they are related to insects.

Lobster are Crustaceans, and so (along with Insects, Arachnids, & Scorpions) are members of the phylum "Arthropoda", which all share the trait of having "bilaterally symmetrical protostomes with strongly segmented bodies", and most of them have exoskeletons (or bones on the outside instead of on the inside).

Many of them are also very tasty, just like lobster!

They are not insects. They are crustaceans. They are however distant relatives of spiders and various other exoskeleton critters. It may surprise you to know cows are related to dolphins. :)
