You should never let diarreah go five weeks without treatment!! Something is definitely wrong. Go to the vet right away.
In the beginning stages of diarreah you can give unflavored yogurt mixed in with the food twice a day until you notice improvement. It should only take 2-3 days. If that doesn't work, give kaopectate...read directions for a child. That should work right away. If THAT doesn't work, go to the vet right away.
Does your dog also have a cough? Is the diarreah *very* watery? If so, you might have a case of canine influenza. Colloidal silver for the cough...a couple of tsp a day (depending on size of dog).
Prolonged diarreah can cause severe dehydration and could be symptomatic of more problematic things. GO TO THE VET!

That is way too long, call the vet. Until then your dog should be on a blan diet. Broiled chicken and rice. It is very digestible. Beef also works with the rice. You can aslo give the dog a small amount of Immodium. As the stool improves you gradually add the normal dog food back in.

I thought you meant for you...lol. Ok, CHICKEN AND RICE! Also a trip to the vet for deworming and inspection. He possibly could have a sensitive stomache too, so you could change to a food specific for sensitive stomaches. Other than that, go to the vet. Chicken and rice is pretty binding and is great for dogs. Good luck and I hope your doggie gets better soon! (Oh, and check for blood, or mucus looking stuff....that would suggest a bad case of worms.)

That's way too long to have the runs because they can dehydrate just like us. Take it to the vet, it could be Parvo which is deadly, and the runs is the first major symptom. I know any type of the runs will smell, but Parvo has a very distinct smell, like death.

5 weeks is a LONG time. Take him to the vet asap! Until you can get him in . . it is ok to give dogs pepto bismol. I buy the childrens chewables for mine. Dogs 25lbs and up can have a whole tablet . . under that weight, break it at least in half. Hope he feels better!

You need to take dog to vet. My vet recommends Kaopectate. She says it is best for the runs and also kills the bacteria . Pepto bismo is really not good because she said it could make the dogs stomach bleed internally. If you can't afford vet please try kaopectate it works really well.
