It appears that one pagan wizard knows more about the Bible than many so-called Christians, because so many of these mistakenly do believe there were three wise men.
Jibba Jabba is also correct!

The number of magi is not given in the scripture. Because there are three gifts listed (gold, frankincense and myrrh), traditions says that there were three magi.
History given more details about the magi. They were a company of Persian nobles who traveled around the Middle and Far East looking for knowledge. They usually had 50-100 noblemen, with wives, families, servants, etc. in the group at any time. They traveled with an army of 3,000 soldiers. They had been involved in a battle against the Romans less then a year before that in which they had defeated a Roman legion.
At the time when they arrived in Jerusalem in 4BC, looking for the king who's birth was shown in the star, Herod had sent the majority of his army to the north, where they would slay Herod's wife and two step-sons. So Jerusalem was defenseless when the magi arrived with their 3,000 soldiers. That is why the city was "troubled" by their presence.

Does it really matter if there were 3, 4, or 34? What's important is they were diligent in their search and when they arrived all they could do was to worship and give their gifts.

Uh, I think that we all know this already. I agree with the guy above who said "so?" You kind of left us hanging by not actually making any kind of point.
