You can if they have been granted a 24 hour alchohol license, if not then no. Some supermarkets have this license now some don't, my local tesco doesn't but the asda does, shame the asda is a trek and a half away

It depends which branch of Tesco you intend to do your shopping at. In England & Wales, some Tesco supermarkets sell alcohol 24 hours, whilst other branches don't sell alcohol all night (even though they may be open 24 hours).

Visit http://www.24houralcohol.co.uk to find Tesco supermarkets that sell alcohol 24 hours a day in various areas of England & Wales.

In Scotland, no Tesco supermarkets sell alcohol 24 hours due to Scottish alcohol licencing regulations which means you won't be able to buy alcohol after 11pm at Tesco, or any other supermarket for that matter.

In England & Wales, It's hard to know where you can buy alcohol 24 hours because times when alcohol can be sold to the public vary drastically from one location to the next, as each supermarket and convenience store has its own alcohol licence which is issued by the local authority/council where the shop is located. Some local authorities are happy to issue 24 hour alcohol licences to supermarkets but others refuse to do so.

Licensing laws changed recently. Local councils now regulate alcohol sales and if Tesco's have a 24 hour license then youcan, but the licenses are on a shop by shop basis so it depends on your individual store.

Fascinating info about Indiana and New York, but not a lot of relevence to the question :)

If today is the day that you were born, 21 years ago, you can buy alcohol today. It doesn't matter if you were born in the morning, afternoon or evening. If the date on your license says today, then they should sell you alcohol. If they don't sell you alcohol, they must not want the money. And I've never heard of a store of ANY kind not wanting the money. lol Have a happy birthday. Enjoy yourself, just don't over do it.

All the 24hr shops I have been to stop selling alcohol at 21:55 hrs because the central computers lock out drinks sales at 10pm.

There may be some exceptions but they would be rare.

Hi, lots of conflicting answers here and I'm not sure either, but I thought the suggestion of phoning the store was a good one, or buying online (especially if you're at home looking after the sickly kids).

Try yell.co.uk, to find the phone number of your local store, or http://www.tesco.com/todayattesco/storelocator.shtml (store locator) and this appears to show all the phone numbers.

Liquor laws vary by individual states. For example, here in Indiana, alcohol cannot be sold for carryout purposes on a Sunday. You can still consume it at a restaurant, bar, or in your own home though. Try going to your state's government home page and look up the liquor license requirements and regulations or just call the store and ask them.
