I don't believe that all Christians and Atheists are Closed Minded and they believe that they have all of the answers. That is a false over generalization. There are people that come from all types of backgrounds that act this way...
Christians have been given the Bible, which is God's word. They may be confident in what they know because they have this book to refer to. What they do not know, they can look up and research...but they should always be willing to learn and listen to different opinions.
Atheist's have a reason for not believing in God. But for the most part, Atheists are actually agnostic because they do believe in a higher power, but they do not want to be confined to a particular religions..."all religions are good in there own way and they believe in basically the same thing" (You will find this to be inaccurate as you look into the beliefs of the different religions...they are all very very different.)
As far as being close minded goes, I believe in God and I am a Christian. If you think that I am close minded because I will not take on your beliefs or someone else's for that matter simply because you believe in it, then you are wrong. I have good reason's for my faith in God and I will not change that, but I will listen to what someone else has to say and will answer any questions that they ask me. But that is not close minded.

Example: I drive a Honda. If you told me it was a Saturn, I would still believe that it was a Honda...I am not close minded...but I do in fact drive a Honda.

I am neither christian or atheist, but I must say that I don't believe they "act alike".

If I were to tell a christian that I am a pagan, (and I'm speaking generally here not all christians will behave in this manner) I would immediately get a rendition of the "Romans Road" or some other salvation speech, or would be told that I am going to "bust hell wide open" or that I worship the devil.. at the very least, they'd give me a wide berth out of fear or disdain.

I have many atheist friends and had encounters with many atheists on Yahoo answers, and not one of them has ever accosted me for my beliefs, told me I was stupid/ignorant/uninformed or that I had to stop believing for fear of some impending torment in an afterlife.

Generally speaking, atheists are much more respectful of the beliefs of others, especially when they see that one has actually studied and educated him/herself to what they believe and are not blindly following what some book or preacher tells them to believe.

I don't see atheists as being closed-minded. I think they are people who have opened up their minds in an unbiased way, and have formed an opinion based on their intelligence and education.

I personally believe that what's right for you is what's right. And, it IS called yahoo ANSWERS, so we ALL have the answers to the right questions ;)

no, because there's no way you can state something about everyone in a religion, you can state something about a few individuals maybe but not everyone. not all christians are closed minded, some are, but many do appreciate other's opinions. not all atheists are closed minded, some might be but you cant say atheists are closed minded because that's referring to all of them. yes i believe that no one has all the answers, but i'll believe what i believe regardless of what you believe, i'll understand if you believe something different, and i won't get all pissed, but i probably will not believe you even though i will respect and take into consideration your belief. thank you

There was a documentary about this exact question, here in the UK. The conclusion was quite interesting. The Narrator was an agnostic, so it came from someone unbiased. The following is from Channel 4's web site:

'The Trouble With Atheism'
"Rod Liddle argues against those who turn to atheism for a rational and moderate approach to today's problems, and says that atheism has high priests and dogmatic beliefs, just like fundamentalist religion."

You can generalize all you want. I am a Christian, and I never claim to have all the answers. Some people are arrogant, but those some people include all kinds of people! Not JUST athiests and Christians.

There are bad seeds everywhere. I'll bet if you looked hard enough you could find someone who worshipped a doorknob who would try to convince you it was the only way to heaven and tell you you are going to hell for not worshipping as well.

Please dont judge based on what religion (or lack of religion) people are.

Well, that's a generalization. Not all Christians claim to have all the answers and neither do all atheists. I think that as people mature they realize they do not know very much at all. Have a great day!

No the difference between christians and atheists is that atheists are right and can prove it using science. This gives us a right to be the way we are when someone basing their entire opinion of the world on nothing more than a scientifically inaccurate contradictory bronze age work of fiction that has been edited many times through history tries to tell us we are wrong. Closed minded? What about atheists is closed minded, exactly? Closed to the impossible and incomprehensible? If so, sure, yeah, atheists are closed minded.

Not all Christians are closed minded just as not all Atheists are closed minded. I know I had to open my mind and heart to become a child of God!
