If you're from North America they are protected under federal law, if part of the European Union also protected, they are pretty much all industrialized countries. If you are in one of those backward countries that shoots anything that moves, beyond the ethical question that arises when you consider most songbirds are facing harsh times, why the hell would you want to shoot a beneficial, insectivorous bird with no meat on it?

Their is not much meat on woodpeckers, and if you do eat one, cook it well. Why would you want too though unless you are in a survival situation?

What makes you think eating small birds gives you a disease? If you cook them thoroughly it will kill any germs they have.

My puppy Woodpecker is up all evening, pecking and poking and peckering away. If i attempt to sleep on the same time as he's busy peckering, he constantly pokes his wood-peckerer in my face to evoke me. *cries very troublesome*
