1 of our neighbors did so & when the child tried to make tea the gas flamed & if we were not available(at home as a neighbor)sure it would caught fire, but when we told the mother when she came back she only said"oh!she always even cooks, perhaps it was simply a mistake"what shall we tell her?

Are you crazy? Suppose the pilot is not working? What if the child gets burned or burns something (a wrapper or packaging materials) while they're cooking what ever they think they need the oven for? The stove and oven should be prohibited without adult supervision!

You should also hope that nobody turns you into to the police or child welfare when you leave your kid home alone. As a parent, I can guarantee you that I'd make the call if I found out you were doing that! It's against the law everywhere, to leave a child under the age of 14 home alone ... yeah, 14! If your child were to burn your home down and die in the fire (I know that's extreme, but it is possible) you'd be facing a laundry list of charges and jail time! You would be held fully responsible for the child's death.

Never. It is too dangerous. Even if the 10 y/o knows how to use the oven...no, no, no! IF an accident/fire/explosion did happen (pray to G*d it does NOT), no 10 y/o is experienced enough to know how to deal with the emergency...in most states it is also not legal to leave a 10 y/o alone.

First of all, a 10 year old CHILD should not be left alone,in no situation! A child that young is no where near mature, the child needs adult supervision!

No! That's definately not old enough to be allowed to use something that dangerous when home alone. Even if they're used to using it under supervision it's still risky. I wouldn't let anyone under about 14 use an oven when home alone.

Absolutely not! I don't have a problem with a ten year old using the oven when an adult is present, but definitely NOT when home alone. You wouldn't leave a 10 year old home alone without a sitter anyway, would you?

It seems to me that you were there to keep an eye out, next time, maybe you should help more, and not just stand around waiting to report the bad news.

why is a 10 yr old home alone anyway? that in intself probably isnt a good idea. tell her that you do not feel safe for the child being there alone and using gas appliances.

No...no way and never.. A 10 year old should never be left alone at home and should never be in the kitchen cooking without any kind of supervision.

Please say you would never do that...
