My girlfriend lives in Oregon... I live in New York. She just left for Norway to play basketball for a year. I really love her but I dont know if we are ever really going to make it. Any one with advice or success stories?

It's remotely possible (no pun intended :). But seriously, your chances are very very slim. I think you should consider other girls until you can close the distance gap between you two. Anyway, you might meet someone better for you than that girl. Good luck!

Well its not easy, thats for sure. The only way it will work, is if you BOTH want it to, and are both willing to wait for each other.

My boyfriend and I have had a long (very long!) distance relationship for 10 months. We talk on the phone every night for hours, and we both have webcams, so we can see each other. Unfortunately neither of us are rich, but we do get to visit about once every 3 months or so. Its tough, but we both want it. Sometimes its harder than other times, but I'm still more and more in love with him every day.

One thing that Ive found helps a lot, is to send each other physical things through the mail (not just email). Receiving something tangible, that you can touch and hold, from the other person brings you closer together than just an email or an e-card. I send him little care packages, or a card, or a hand-written letter every now and then, for no reason, or because of an occasion...It makes the relationship feel not so far away, and more real.

Another thing that really helps, is web-camming. Especially now days, because you can both have a webcam on with sound...it feels like you're sitting right there just talking with the person face to face...Its a "must have" for any long distance relationship.

Its never easy, but there are some things that make it tolerable.
Good luck to the both of you!

Here is a true sucess story!!
I have been married just under 3 years now, My husband decided to voluntreer for the peacecore and was sent to albania last dec, we had not even been married 2 years at that point, things were already rocky with our marrige, considering that I wanted to start a family right away and he didnt. But because I loved him, I decided that I had to let him follow his dream and stay by his side. now its its a year later, and I have fallen in love with my husband all over again, Just by the phone calls that we make to one another., I say give it a try and attempt to work things out, who knows maybe you will marry this woman one day. Have faith that things will work for the best and if you want always expect the worst, It helps when the ruff times are near. Good luck and have a great christmas.

They say absence makes the heart grow fonder, and this is only true if it is love.

I say yes, long distance relationships so work out, but only if both people in the relationship have strong feelings for one another, if BOTH people in the relationship are willing to put effort into the relationship, if BOTH people in the relationship are willing to compromise, and if BOTH people in the relationship are very much in love with one another.

There are quite a number of success stories actually. One of my friends went to college in Connecticut and her boyfriend went to college in Oregon starting freshman year. 4 years passed and they're still going strong and they're engaged right now.

So yes, long distance relationships do work because love surpasses all things, even something like this.

From experience long distance realtionship don't work for men, because they have the need of SEX all the time. Of course they don't think properly so they blame it on the long distance excuse of loneliness. Try doing some phone crazy "talk" you know what I mean. Maybe she won't cheat. Best advise is always keep in touch with her, don't talk about worry talk about what you did today because if you don't you just assuming things that you going to push her to cheat or break up the relationship. Worry is too much pressure.

I lived in Toronto and my girlfriend in Poland, we did this with visits every 4-6 months for 2 years, we've now been married for 10 years! It's not the 'long distance' but the people, this is, sadly, the best way to find out if you love eachother.

Yes, they can work, but it TAKES work.

My wife and I had a long-distance relationship for three years, but we were able to see each other in person at least once a year for a week or two.

It helps if both people are the shy type who don't make a lot of friends easily - or maybe that's just me, but I never felt the desire to stray.
