It may or may not work. It really depends on whether or not this is the right medication for you. It also matters if you are at the right numbers for you. For most, this means getting the TSH below 2.0. Keep track of your TSH and you should be on your way to feeling better. If for some reason you don't feel better after 6 months to a year, then research other medications. Some of us do fine with just T4 (the med you are on) and others like me need both T4 and T3. You've got to give the T4 a chance though. Because of your young age, the chances of it working are very high. Good luck to you. If you want to learn more check out the thyroid forum on www.about.com

it should be working now. one of the following is true:
1) it is working and you don't know it
2) you have been misdiagnosed and Levothyroxine is not what you need
3) the amount of Levothyroxine in your blood is not at a therapeutic level and you need your dose modified
4) you have some idiopathic problem that prevents Levothyroxine from working
5) you are taking another medication and/or dietary supplement that interacts with Levothyroxine and prevents it from working
has your doctor been monitoring you with blood tests to determine if your levels are therapeutic and that no adverse reactions are occurring? there are 4 basic "triggers" in your thyroid system that should be monitored: TRH, TSH, T3 and T4

It started working the day you first took it, and by now (6 weeks later) it is doing all it can for you, now it is just up to your body to catch up to the meds-and you do realise of course that you will be on the the rest of your life? IO am on the same med, and it took about 3 months before I could actually notice that they were working, and will be taking them the rest of my life (which really sucks cause I HATE taking pills!!)
