Why is the vcr part of my vcr/dvd turning off?

When I try to watch a vhs tape, after I push play, the whole thing shuts down, I cant even program the time and date. The dvd player part works fine. Help please!!!

Because it's jealous of the DVD player...and wouldn't you be too?

Mine does the same thing on longer VHS tapes. The machine cant handle the load.
