I have a 6 month old miniature pinshcer and she weights 10lbs and already has most of her adult teeth in. The vet as well as my grandmother who is very knowleageble about min pins stated that small dogs are not full grown until they're at least 1 year old.
Based on that information I know about min pins I feel that for her to be 10lbs @ 6 months is kind of big. Unless she starts leveling off at this age and just finish growing in her body (if you get what I am saying). Anyone who has small dog and/or min pin what was your experience like when you had your dog as a puppy growing wise. Thank you.

Thanks for the answers. I really wanted a small min pin, but when I saw her on petfinder with her little leg wrapped I had to have her. Now that I have her I want her to stay small and if she doesn't I'm not going to give her away (never saw a dog cling to me like she does)...and never spent so much money and time on a dog before. Thanks again

Since some people misinterpret the definition or statement of "small min pin" I would have to clearify. I did not mean teacup small, but reasonable size small. According to many websites AKC, dogbreedinfo.com, training books min pins weight range between 8-10lbs fully grown, and that's what I meant by "small min pin." I thought i'll asked people's experiences with their dog's about what age they should start leveling off. When I first got her she was pretty large (8lbs) and over the 2 month period only thing changed was that she got a little longer and a bit wider (which is fine) but I'm just wondering height wise if she'll become taller or stay the same. Thanks.

By this time she will have most of the full height she will get.
She may fill out some but should be about full size.
Make sure she does not get fat. These little dogs tend to get fat easily and it is very hard on their joints and backs to carry extra weight.
If she is getting heavy get her moving and exercising so you drop some of the weight.

I LOVE my whippet. Total sweet heart! Many will argue that a whippet is not very trainable, but mine is awesome on his recall. He has also been to a few obedience matches (doing excellent!). I know many breeders and people with whippets. They are all very loyal and will enjoy any time with there owners. Mine will bark at the door when a stranger arrives. Just be sure to socialize when young so there not so shy! As far as the cold, they don't like it, but nor do min pins! Both breeds would need a coat and be an indoor dog. I live in Washington, very cold. Mine doesn't mind as long as he has a comfy bed to cuddle in. Min pin are, in my opinion, are very independent and yappy. They are however a good size if your looking for a small dog as whippets would be considered more of a medium sized dog. Many I have met have behavior problems. They like to nip and snap. But many people seem to enjoy this breed, its a matter of opinion.

All dogs have different rates,my mom adopted a puggle and he was supposed to be 25 lbs full grown, yeah, right. 45 lbs. And most puggles that i've met are 45 lbs. you could very well have a larger min pin. after 6-7 months, a dog does stop growing at the fast rate. Right now, my dog Java is 8 months, and she stopped growing at her puppy rate 2 months ago. They start to get they're muscle tone now, and grow that way as compared to the "oh my gosh, will she stop growing now" rate. She will still get a little bigger, but I wouldn't worry. My aunt has a 20 lb pomeranian and he's not fat, just big.

I have two small dogs-a chihuahua and a boston terrier/rat terrier cross. Let me just tell you, being too small even in small dogs is a bad thing. It means that they are sickly-teacup puppies as they are called-means that the breeders are breeding for small size and most the time-it means they are going to have severe health problems. Great example is my old dog, a chihuahua who was only 10 lbs and ended up having a collapsing trachea which led to collapsing lungs and irreversable digestive problems all caused by bad genes. He died before the age of 1.
Your dog will grow until a year old. My boston and other chihuahua doubled (at least) from 6 months to a year. It is normal and a very good thing. 20 lbs for a min pin means he/she is healthy (as long as it is not obese) Be thankful for such a healthy pup!

I was told they are done growing at about 9 months. My min pin was a little on the chubby side too for awhile. Now at one year she is a healthy 8lbs. I have seen other min pins that are bigger. The 10 -12 lb is still normal for a min pin. Mine is such a cuddle bug too . . don't ya just love that about them?!

most dogs reach there full size at about 6 months but they are still puppies for about a year. Their bones harden and bodies take on fuller tone but if he's 10 now he might only get to 10.5 or 11lbs.

I have had several min pins. My current min pin is almost six months and she weighs 4 pounds. My first one weighed about the same and at full grown only weighed 8lbs. I had one that was a little larger than average but he only weighed 8lbs when he was full grown.

Bones still need the extra vitamins and continue to get stronger for a year. She is probably as tall as she will be but will grow out a couple of pounds. probably won't even be noticable.
