There's supposedly support for the rapture concept in scripture, but I'm sure people didn't latch onto it until they realized they could sensationalize it.

NOPE. The term Rapture didn't. The prphesy has been
around for 1000s of years. Jesus talks about two in the field. One being taken, and the other left. Matt 24.
I'm convinced Revelation foretells the Rapture.
It talks about the guy on a cloud, just like at Acts 1:11.
And getting a sickle, and reaping the Earth. For the time
is right. It's a little confusing because it talks about Gods
winepress pressing blood out of everybody. But I've
found blood is a symbolic term.God will purge us
of our negative spiritual energies. All the resentment,
anger,and pain!
Going througn my notes last night. The book of Joel
mentions this! (The winepress). That was long before
Jesus said anything about it!

Rapture: The belief that faithful Christians will be bodily caught up from the earth, suddenly taken out of the world, to be united with the Lord “in the air.” The word “rapture” is understood by some persons, but not by all, to be the meaning of 1 Thessalonians 4:17. The word “rapture” does not occur in the inspired Scriptures.

Will all faithful Christians be taken miraculously from the earth by the Lord before the great tribulation?

Matt. 24:21, 22: “Then there will be great tribulation such as has not occurred since the world’s beginning until now, no, nor will occur again. In fact, unless those days were cut short, no flesh would be saved; but on account of the chosen ones those days will be cut short.” (This does not say that “the chosen ones” will all have been taken to heaven before the great tribulation, does it? Rather, it holds out the prospect to them, along with associates in the flesh, of surviving that great tribulation on earth.)

Rev. 7:9, 10, 14, RS: “After this I looked, and behold, a great multitude which no man could number, from every nation, from all tribes and peoples and tongues, standing before the throne and before the Lamb, clothed in white robes, with palm branches in their hands, and crying out with a loud voice, ‘Salvation belongs to our God who sits upon the throne, and to the Lamb!’ . . . ‘These are they who have come out of the great tribulation.’” (To “come out” of something a person must go into it or be in it. So this great multitude must be persons who actually experience the great tribulation and come out of it as survivors.)

The idea refers to the anointed ones (little flock) who will rule with Christ in heaven as kings and high priests. They will rule over the paradise which means there will still be faithful followers who remains on earth.

19th Century is when the WORD was used. The idea does come from the Bible.

Some call it "the tribulation" which is a Biblical term.

Rapture comes from a teenage Scottish girl in 1830, but it was popularized by a modern, New Age, religious leader in 1860.

Read the book of Revelation for the idea of "Rapture."

You will see the Apostle John was shown many things about the second coming of Jesus.

No, actually 19 or even 18th century. See the reference below for the complete history. The "idea" might be older, who knows?, however it was more widely spread late 19 century.
