You can find the best hairstylist thru word of mouth. For example sometimes people will ask me 'Where did you get your hair done?' and I refer them to my stylist (who used to work at Regis) Or if you like any of your friends hair ask them who does their hair. I would even ask someone I seen around. I would rather go to someone that I've seen their work first hand.

The best way to find a good hair stylist is to go up to women (the mall is a great place to start) that have a hairstyle that you like, compliment them on it and ask them where they have their hair done. Most are eager to share this information and flattered at the compliment and being noticed. The receptionist at a Salon is not likely to care which one is the best and will just schedule you with the one who is available at the time you want to come in, which, more likely than not, NOT THE BEST...that is why they are available!

That sort of salon, has different levels of expertise. I know that one of the salons that I go to, which is very cutting edge, there are the owners which charge $300 a haircut, the next level underneath, about $150, and then there is the rest of the staff that charge between $75 and 100 depending on their level of expertise. So personally I would hang out in the salon, and check out the work, before committing to a stylist. I would definitely try to get one of the higher ups.

i think when you call and talk to the receptionist, then its okay to ask about something like that, but you have to keep in mind that she might not know who it is and just put you with someone. tell her what you want to have done and then she might have a better idea. some stylists might be better at perms, others at highlights, and others at actually styling your hair.
if you're in there though i wouldn't ask for the best one because depending on who she put you with, that could offend the other stylists if they heard.
also, sometimes the stylists answer the phones and will just put you with them thinking that they're the best.
my advice would be just to go get your hair cut there a couple times and whoever does it the best, ask for them when you go back. give them a couple chances though!
GOOD LUCK!

The way I look at is this: asking for the best hair stylist may feel a bit embarrassing, but walking around town for weeks with a crappy hair cut is worse.
So I say, suck it up best you can, march in there and ask to speak to the best stylist. Let her/him see and touch your hair, tell them what you are thinking about having done. See how they respond - are they listening? Asking you good questions? Making good suggestions?
If you are happy with how they responded to you and you feel you can trust them to do a good job, then thank them and ask when they can fit you in. They will likely refer you back to the receptionist, but since she knows who you were talking to, she will honour that and book you with the appropriate person.
I have done this lots of times and am really happy with how my hair has turned out every time.
I hope this helps, Good luck!!

Call and say you are a new customer, ask the receptionist who she would recommend, that way you can get the best stylist without sounding rude or tacky.

no at the place that i get my hair cut they have different levels of hair stylists.... the more hair cuts they have done the more expensive it is to have them cut your hair. to me its the same thing... its your hair that you have to walk around with and your spending the money. ive even sat down in the chair and had a hair stylist start brushing my hair... and for what ever reason i didnt get a good vibe from her or i didnt like the way she did her own hair i asked or pointed out who i wanted to do my hair...

No, it just means you want the best hair. Ask your friends or other people about hairstylists in your city and armed with opinions go to the hairstylist you choose and if you recommended the person's name who sent you then you might get a discount.

No honey, that is NOT tacky and yes the receptionist should know. Simply ask her who she would recommend.
